McCoy

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is responsible for 1 in every 10 acres of land in the U.S.

McCoy, Colorado is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and recreational activities of all types. The nearby King Mountain Recreation Area and several national forests offer incredible hiking, mountain biking, camping, fishing, and boating opportunities. The trails throughout McCoy are often used for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking, but they’re most popular with dirt bike riders.

BLM sites and trails are public lands that have been set aside and protected. This protection helps to keep fragile ecosystems safe and ensures that visitors can enjoy the gorgeous views and incredible opportunities offered by these sites for generations to come. Although many BLM sites offer various camping or boating amenities, the McCoy trails do not. To find BLM sites with camping options, search for “BLM camping near me.”

Planning your McCoy BLM trip

The trails in the McCoy area are often difficult to navigate, and the area is remote. For safety reasons, let someone know where you’re going, what your tentative itinerary is, and when you plan to return. Always carry plenty of water and first aid supplies. The area is also popular with hunters, so if you’re enjoying the trails during hunting season, consider wearing a piece of bright clothing, such as an orange or yellow vest or hat. Leave No Trace Leaf

All natural areas, whether they’re Bureau of Land Management campgrounds, trails, or even parts of a town, deserve care and respect. Leave No Trace and tread lightly practices can make taking care of these areas easier. Always be careful when starting a campfire, and make sure the fire is completely out before you move on. When hiking, stay on the trail, and don’t cut through switchbacks. Try to visit remote areas in small groups to limit your impact. Never take home any rocks, plants, or animals, and don’t use trail markers like rock cairns or ribbons. When camping, camp 200 feet from water sources on stable ground with little vegetation.
