Located between Grafton and Ardon, West Virginia, Tygart Lake State Park is a great place to relax and to take in some sights. It can be found at the feet of the Allegheny Mountains near the 1,750-acre Tygart Lake. The dam used to create the Tygart Reservoir was built in 1938, which is seven years before the land was officially given to West Virginia by the U.S. government. Its campgrounds opened in 1955 and are still in use today.

Tygart Lake Campground
Tygart Lake Campground is open spring through fall and offers a wonderful view of Tygart Lake. You can go hiking through the woods or relax on the beach. There are 36 camping sites, 10 of which include electric and water hookups. There are public showers and a dump station near the beach. Rates are between $20-$23 per day.
Family Fishing and Camping/RV Park
The Family Fishing and Camping/RV Park includes four massive fishing lakes, so fishing enthusiasts will feel right at home. The family-owned facility even holds occasional fishing tournaments. The campground has 82 sites with water, electricity, and Wi-Fi. Rates range from $30-$35 a night, and 30- and 50-amp hookups are available.
Whisper Mountain RV Park
Sitting on 70 acres of woods, Whisper Mountain RV Park is a great place to go hiking, exploring, or fishing. Amenities include a swimming pool, a sports area, a playground, and pavilions available for rent. Pets are welcome. Rates range from $37 to $45 a night.
Broken Wheel Campground
Broken Wheel Campground is family-owned and has been in business for years. Most sites are by a river and feature a fire pit for cooking or relaxing. Water, electricity, and a dump station are available, along with 30-amp hookups. Rates vary from $20-$30 a night.
Farnum Park
Farnum Park is found in a quiet, hilly area of West Virginia. There are 20 flat, graveled sites, with either 30- or 50-amp hookups. Pets are welcome. Water, sewer, and Wi-Fi are included.

The beautiful Tygart Lake has plenty to see and do. Why not go hiking through the woods, or hang out at the beach? While you're hiking, you can get lost in nature or make your way to the Tygart Lake Lodge for a well-deserved meal. Water sports, such as kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, and scuba diving, are popular, and all can be done with a view of the surrounding mountains.
How to Get to
Tygart Lake State Park
Tygart Lake is located in northeastern West Virginia. Head northwest on I-79 N, and take exit 137 toward WV-310 S. Turn right onto WV-310 S, and follow for about 14 miles. Turn left onto W Main St/Northwestern Turnpike. After about 1 mile, turn right onto W Wilford St, and then left onto Upper Wilford. Take a slight left onto W Wilford St, and then turn right onto Luzadder St. Turn left onto E Main St and then right onto Barrett Street.

There is plenty to do throughout the year at Tygart Lake State Park. Summer activities, including boating, jet skiing, and swimming, are popular attractions. Leaf-peepers flock to the park in the fall to see the fantastic colors.
Many species of birds make their home in the park, including woodpeckers, eagles, and more. Butterflies begin to emerge in the spring, and the song of the spring peepers can be heard throughout the park.
At Tygart Lake State Park, there are 36 camping sites to be shared among RVers, vans, trailers, and tenters. There are ten sites with 50-amp electric and water hookups. The campground has picnic areas, restrooms, and showers.
It is recommended that you reserve your camping site at Tygart Lake State Park, but it is not required. Unreserved sites at the park are first-come, first-served. Reservations can be made online, in person, or over the phone.
Dogs are welcome at Tygart Lake State Park. They are allowed on the hiking and walking trails but must be on a leash. Owners must clean up after their pets.
