Tygart Lake State Park RV & Campground Guide
Located between Grafton and Ardon, West Virginia, Tygart Lake State Park is a great place to relax and to take in some sights. It can be found at the feet of the Allegheny Mountains near the 1,750-acre Tygart Lake. The dam used to create the Tygart Reservoir was built in 1938, which is seven years before the land was officially given to West Virginia by the U.S. government. Its campgrounds opened in 1955 and are still in use today.

Tygart Lake Campground
Tygart Lake Campground is open spring through fall and offers a wonderful view of Tygart Lake. You can go hiking through the woods or relax on the beach. There are 36 camping sites, 10 of which include electric and water hookups. There are public showers and a dump station near the beach. Rates are between $20-$23 per day.
Family Fishing and Camping/RV Park
The Family Fishing and Camping/RV Park includes four massive fishing lakes, so fishing enthusiasts will feel right at home. The family-owned facility even holds occasional fishing tournaments. The campground has 82 sites with water, electricity, and Wi-Fi. Rates range from $30-$35 a night, and 30- and 50-amp hookups are available.
Whisper Mountain RV Park
Sitting on 70 acres of woods, Whisper Mountain RV Park is a great place to go hiking, exploring, or fishing. Amenities include a swimming pool, a sports area, a playground, and pavilions available for rent. Pets are welcome. Rates range from $37 to $45 a night.
Broken Wheel Campground
Broken Wheel Campground is family-owned and has been in business for years. Most sites are by a river and feature a fire pit for cooking or relaxing. Water, electricity, and a dump station are available, along with 30-amp hookups. Rates vary from $20-$30 a night.
Farnum Park is found in a quiet, hilly area of West Virginia. There are 20 flat, graveled sites, with either 30- or 50-amp hookups. Pets are welcome. Water, sewer, and Wi-Fi are included.

Inside Tygart Lake State Park
The beautiful Tygart Lake has plenty to see and do. Why not go hiking through the woods, or hang out at the beach? While you're hiking, you can get lost in nature or make your way to the Tygart Lake Lodge for a well-deserved meal. Water sports, such as kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, and scuba diving, are popular, and all can be done with a view of the surrounding mountains.
Outside Tygart Lake State Park
The adventure doesn't end when you leave Tygart Lake State Park. Try out some of the local restaurants, like Leonard's Grill or Gourmet Express. Go hiking at some of the parks nearby, such as Valley Falls or Blackwater Falls. If you want to take it easy, head to Pleasant Creek, rent a boat, and head out on the water.
Leonard's Grill has a little bit of everything. You can try one of their many burgers, including a regular hamburger, a bacon cheeseburger, or a BBQ burger. It even has a bacon cheese fry sandwich. Salads and kids' meals are available.

Valley Falls State Park rests on more than 1,100 acres and is the former site of a lumber mill community. Overhead, the Tygart Valley River splits into four thunderous waterfalls. You can go hiking or biking, and fishing is popular.

Anna Jarvis Museum
The Anna Jarvis Museum is the birthplace of Anna Jarvis, the founder of Mother's Day. It was also the field headquarters of General George McClellan, who led what would become the Army of the Potomac during the Civil War. One room is dedicated to him, and the rest is for Anna Jarvis.

Blackwater Falls State Park sits hidden in the Allegheny Mountains. You can use the stone steps to get closer to the 57-foot Blackwater Falls or head up to one of the viewing platforms for a view. Miles of hiking trails crisscross through this park.

Prickett's Fork State Park is a reconstruction of the original Prickett's Fork, a place of refuge during colonial times. It is located near Prickett's Creek and the Monongahela River, and you will find actors in period clothing demonstrating a past version of life. You can watch blacksmiths and weavers at work and learn a thing or two.

How to Get to
Tygart Lake State Park
Tygart Lake is located in northeastern West Virginia. Head northwest on I-79 N, and take exit 137 toward WV-310 S. Turn right onto WV-310 S, and follow for about 14 miles. Turn left onto W Main St/Northwestern Turnpike. After about 1 mile, turn right onto W Wilford St, and then left onto Upper Wilford. Take a slight left onto W Wilford St, and then turn right onto Luzadder St. Turn left onto E Main St and then right onto Barrett Street.
