Highly regarded as one of the best places in Southern Texas for freshwater fishing, Falcon State Park is a 570-acre plot of land at the southern tip of the Falcon International Reservoir. This expansive freshwater reservoir is also a favorite spot for watersports, like jet skiing. Found between Falcon Heights, Texas, and Mexico's Nueva Ciudad Guerrero, Tamaulipas, the park is a wonderful place to spend time outdoors, especially in the fall and winter when the weather is mild. It's less than a half-hour drive from the park to the historic sites of Roma and Rio Grande City.

Falcon State Park Campgrounds

If you're vacationing at Falcon State Park, it's not a huge leap to also want to camp out there overnight. The park has a total of 98 campsites. They’re priced at $10, $16 and $18 per night, depending on the type of hookups you want. The park features things like grills, barbecue pits, fire rings, restroom facilities, covered picnic tables and shelters. Leashed pets are also welcomed.

Stinson RV Park & Storage

Stinson RV Park & Storage is an expansive RV park right off the side of the highway, making it a perfect place to camp if you're looking for a spot between Falcon State Park and the surrounding towns. All 79 pull-thru spots on the property cost $40 per night and include full electrical, water, and sewage hookups. 

You can enjoy a pet-friendly vacation in style there, thanks to the many amenities located around the park, like laundry facilities, showers, restrooms, fire rings with available wood, a catch-and-release pond, 9-hole golf course, and an on-site restaurant. Free Wi-Fi is also available throughout the park.

Amigo Inn & RV Park

The Amigo Inn & RV Park is a traditional inn that also has 65 RV campsites on its property. RV spots cost $35 per night. For this price, you'll get full RV hookups, TV connections and Wi-Fi. The park grounds have tons of space for activities like hiking and biking, and there’s a lake for fishing. Restrooms are on-site, and so is a communal area with a kitchen.

Falcon State Park

Inside Falcon State Park

Whether you're a fan of hiking, swimming, boating or water skiing, you'll be able to do it in and around the lake at Falcon State Park. There are also 3 miles of hiking trails to explore as well as a butterfly garden. Fishing is very popular here because of the abundance of huge bass in the reservoir. You might spot some javelinas in the park; these hoofed mammals resemble wild pigs but are members of the peccary family.

Holiday Restaurant serves up a nice dining experience with some seriously tasty food. While their specialty is authentic Mexican cuisine, like cheesy enchiladas and meaty tacos, the restaurant also has a wide selection of classic American fare, including burgers and fries, bacon and eggs, and steak. If you've got room for dessert, their sweets are just as good to eat as they are to look at.

World Birding Center

The World Birding Center in Roma Bluffs is a vast, elevated area designed to make watching birds as easy and enjoyable as possible. The Rio Grande Valley is known worldwide as one of the greatest birding destinations you can find, and the World Birding Center helps you make the most of it with information and advantageous positioning. Stop by for a gorgeous view of the land and spot some rare wildlife while you're at it.

Downtown Roma

There's plenty of great architecture to see in Downtown Roma. This area features historic buildings that date back to the 1750s. Designated a National Historic Landmark, the downtown area is a representation for what border towns looked like in the 1900s. It is comprised of 38 buildings, 16 of which are stone from 1829-1870 and 19 of which are brick dating from around 1880-1900.

How to Get to
Falcon State Park

To get to Falcon State Park most efficiently, start from the south in Roma, Texas. First, make your way onto US-83 and follow it for about 11 miles. Turn left onto FM-2098 and drive for a little over 3 miles, at which point you'll see the signage begin to show that you're on Texas State Park Road 46. Keep going for another mile before turning left on P46, traveling for another mile and a half or so before making a left turn onto Park Avenue. 

Entering Falcon State Park

Falcon State Park is at the end of Park Avenue, less than half a mile down the road. It's a left turn when traveling in from Roma from the south and a right turn if traveling in from Zapata in the north. Day-use hours for the park are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
