- Lake Greenwood State Park
Created out of nothing by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s, Lake Greenwood State Park occupies 914 acres along the 11,400-acre Lake Greenwood shoreline. Most of the park sits on a series of peninsulas that jut into the manmade lake, offering a sublime location for a family vacation. Many of the CCC's original structures still exist and are used by the park for offices, restrooms, and storage areas. Trees planted by the CCC during the early stages of the park's development stand as a canopy to hide much of the original engineering work, making for a pleasant environment with natural environmental overtones. While Lake Greenwood State Park is surrounded by small communities like Ninety Six, South Carolina, many of its guests tend to visit from large urban areas such as Columbia, South Carolina, or Athens, Georgia.
