You can play on the 40,000-acre lake by launching a boat at one of the three marinas in this park or swim in its water. Anglers love this lake, which is the largest in New Mexico, and it is often recognized as one of the best managed in the Southwest. The National Audubon Society proclaims the areas around the park’s three marinas and the Rock Canyon are important birding areas. You can also go hiking along 15 miles of trails. Head to this park, located 1 mile east of Elephant Butte, 6 miles north of Truth or Consequences and about 100 miles east of Silver City, for a great getaway.

On a hot summer day, you'll see all types of boaters on Elephant Butte Lake. Most have used one of the park’s three marinas to launch their watercraft. You're also likely to find people having fun on the beach and playing in the lake as well. The marinas are popular places to go bird watching in the spring and fall. How to Get to
Elephant Butte Lake State Park

This state park is located about 146 miles south of Albuquerque, and you can easily reach it from there. Start by getting on Interstate 25 South. Get off at exit 83, which is the New Mexico 183 S/New Mexico 52 South exit. After exiting, turn left to get on that road. Go about 0.5 miles and turn left to get on New Mexico 195 South. Follow that highway for about 3.6 miles, and you will arrive at the park.
