Spruce Run Recreation Areais surrounded by the rolling hills of Hunterdon County and covers 1,290 acres with 15 miles of shoreline. Spruce Run is about 16 miles west of Phillipsburg, northwest of Clinton and Glen Gardner. Visitors come to see the gorgeous moonlight views over the reservoir, wildlife, and water leisure activities. It's the third-largest reservoir in New Jersey after Wanaque and Round Valley reservoir and is used for recreational purposes like fishing, swimming, and boating. Many waterfowl roam the area and are permitted to be hunted on a seasonal basis.

Stephens State Park Campground
Less than 22 miles from Spruce Run, you'll come to Stephens State Park Campground, which sits in another great state park. Some of the campsites have water and electrical hookups and are within walking distance of all of the state park's activities. Amenities available here are a dump station, showers, restrooms, and a playground. Pets are welcome.

Visitors enjoy the challenge of catching 29 species of fish in Spruce Run, including catfish, carp, largemouth bass, sunfish, and yellow perch; it's seasonally stocked with hybrid, bass, trout, and northern pike. The reservoir is the ideal place for a family outing of boating, sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, and canoeing. Many visitors come to spend time at the beach, where you'll find lifeguards on duty from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The beach complex also contains a first aid station, restrooms, showers, and changing areas. Other things to do inside this recreational area are hiking, biking, camping, picnicking, and cookouts.

Delaware River Railroad Excursions train cars were built in the Peoples Republic of China in 1989. Several tours take you along the scenic Delaware River. One of the most popular tours is the Villa Milagro Vineyards because it's a combination of a bus ride over to the vineyard and a train ride. You'll get to tour the vineyard and taste some wine while visiting. Other stops along the railway include the Ol' Susquehanna Mine, Historic Pohatcong Garden, and corn maze.

The Oxford Furnace is a historical landmark that still stands today. The restoration of this unique building began in 1997. This relic of the 18th century originally stood about 31 feet; today, it stands only 22 feet due to the built-up grassy area around its structure. On the hill overlooking the furnace sits Shippen Manor, which was once the ironmaster's home and which now acts as a museum. Both the furnace and Shippen Manor are ideal for touring.

Spruce Run Recreation Area is in the city of Clinton and is accessible using NJ-31, which runs north to south from Clinton, New Jersey, to Glen Gardner, New Jersey. From NJ-31, take Van Syckles Road for about 1.5 miles, and the park's entrance will be on the left.
