While Missouri Governor Herbert S. Hadley first envisioned a state park here in the early 1900s, it was not until after Robert M. Snyder started building an estate at this location that people became aware of its innate beauty. Unfortunately, Snyder passed away before its completion, but his sons finished building the castle. Over time, and with the Lake of the Ozarks' construction, the small pond located at this park disappeared, and the park that Hadley envisioned was finally opened to the public in 1978. A fire had already destroyed the castle, leaving behind the ruins that visitors see today. If you've visited this state park, the team would love to see your photos and read about your memories.
