Fort Flagler State Park

is located in Jefferson County, Washington. It is a former U.S. Army coastal artillery fort that is now used for public recreation. The historic park is named after Brigadier General Daniel Webster Flagler, an Army general that served in the American Civil War. Visitors can enjoy the historic land by hiking or biking trails, camping, or boating. Nearby, the cities of Port Townsend and Seattle are close enough for travelers to visit for some additional sightseeing, shopping, and eating.

Fort Flagler Upper Campground

The Upper Campground is located on a cliff that overlooks the Pacific, and it presents a stunning view of the landscape. This campground hosts 47 standard tent sites where visitors can camp, along with two biker/hiking areas and four reservable walk-in sites. Fort Flagler Lower Campground

The Lower Campground is a bit smaller, but it's still intriguing and located on the beautiful coast. Guests can tour the historic buildings nearby or hike and bike the trails. This area features 57 full-hookup campsites and twelve tent sites, so it's best suited for RVs. However, it is still a wonderful spot for conventional campers too. Visitors can grab a bite to eat at the local restaurant and shop at the convenience store for some essentials. This campground also has bathrooms and showers for guests that are camping without an RV.

Inside Fort Flagler State Park

There are many exciting activities for visitors of Fort Flagler. The park is known for its historical setting and guided tours of the old buildings and bunkers that were formerly used by the U.S. Army. How to Get to
Fort Flagler State Park

Fort Flagler State Park is located on the north end of Marrowstone Island, about two hours northwest of Seattle, and southeast of Port Townsend. You can take the ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge Island, then take the 305 northwest and continue to follow the road signs to Fort Flagler. 

Entering Fort Flagler State Park

Fort Flagler State Park is open from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. during the summer and 8:00 a.m. to dusk during the winter. However, the Lower Campground is open year-round while the Upper Campground is only open March 1st through November 1st. If you are planning to go camping, check-in time is 2:30 p.m., and check-out time is 1:00 p.m. All state parks in Washington require a Discover Pass that can be purchased on an annual or daily basis.
