It is incredibly easy to get to Ray Roberts Lake State Park, which is located just outside of Pilot Point, Texas, and within 60 miles of Dallas and Decatur. At the park, you can rent a boat at the marina for fun on the water and take along your fishing pole to see if you can beat the lake record of 15.48 pounds for bass. You can also go horseback riding on 12 miles of trails or bike along 10 miles of bike-and-hike trails. There are an additional 29 miles of hiking trails for those who like to get out and explore on foot. Ray Roberts Lake is one of the premier fishing lakes in northeast Texas, and state agencies manage the entire area around this lake. This state park operates two marinas on the lake where you can keep your boat, get repair work done, or get gas or supplies for your next trip. This park connects to the Greenbelt Corridor, so there is plenty of riding, hiking, and biking options. Consider the Lone Star Lodge on this state park's property if you are looking for a place to hold a meeting or family reunion. The Interpretative Center at the Isle du Bois Unit is a great place to learn about this park’s wildlife.
How to Get to
Ray Roberts Lake State Park
To reach the Johnson Unit of Ray Roberts Lake State Park from Dallas, take I-35 E and I-35 N following signs that say you are going to Denton, Texas. Get off when you reach Exit 483. Turn right on East Lone Oak Road and turn right again on Parkway 4153. Continue, and the park’s entrance will be on your right.
To reach the Isle du Bois Unit from Dallas, take I-35 E to I-35 N and get off at Exit 470. Get on the 380 Truck Loop and take the Farm to Market 2164 exit. Turn left on Farm to Market 2164 and continue to Farm to Market 2153, where you need to turn right. Take 2153 to Running Bear Road and turn left. Continue until you reach Farm to Market 455 E and turn right. Turn left on Parkway 4137 to reach the park.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ray Roberts Lake State Park
Like much of Texas, Ray Roberts Lake State Park experiences hot and humid summers with mild winters. The high humidity during the summer can make the heat almost unbearable. Winter and spring are often the most tolerable seasons.
The abundant food sources in the park make it the perfect home for deer, rabbits, eastern gray squirrels, nine-banded armadillos, gray foxes, striped skunks, and coyotes. Great blue herons, bald eagles, and wild turkeys are also often spotted.
Ray Roberts Lake State Park has more than 200 campsites with electricity and water hookups. These sites are open to both tents and RVs. These sites have picnic tables, fire rings, and outdoor grills.
You can bring your pet to Ray Roberts Lake State Park if they have a current rabies vaccination. Your pet must always be with you and kept either in a crate or on a leash.
Several of the campsites across both the Johnson Branch and Isle du Bois campgrounds are wheelchair accessible. The modern bathrooms and showers are spacious and close by for easy access.
