It’s just an hour from San Antonio and 9 miles from Luling, but you’ll feel like you’ve entered another world. Hike along paths that meander through the tropical forest, float on an inner tube in the sunshine and paddle the gentle waters of the San Marcos River. This small park packs in plenty of fun, so you can enjoy an adventurous vacation or a relaxing family escape. Palmetto State Park Campground
Stay in the heart of the action at the Palmetto State Park Campground. With sites that are nestled into the forest, this spot offers plenty of shade. One site offers full hookups; 17 additional sites have water and electricity. Each one accommodates RVs up to 65 feet long, so feel free to bring the big rig, but keep in mind that all sites offer back-in access only. Bathrooms with showers sit close by, and your campsite provides a picnic table, a grill, and a fire ring. The full-hookup site is $20 per night while the partial-hookup sites are $18 per night. In addition, you’ll need to pay the daily entrance fee for the park itself. If you’re staying for a week, the park offers one night for free.
River Bend RV Park & Campground
Fall asleep to the sound of the water at River Bend RV Park & Campground, a peaceful spot located just 15 minutes from Palmetto State Park. With river access, a pool, volleyball, basketball, and a rec room within the gated park boundaries, your crew will find plenty to keep them busy. There’s even a catch-and-release lake for fun family fishing. Every site includes full hookups, and a convenience store provides bait, snacks, and everything else you need. During the summer, RV sites range from $40-45 with a three-day minimum. The rest of the year, nightly rates range from $30-35 depending on the type of electric service you need.

Inside Palmetto State Park
Once you’re set up at a campsite, get the lay of the land at Palmetto State Park with a quick stroll through the dwarf palmettos on the Palmetto Trail. Hike or bike the other park trails, which include Ottine Swamp, Mesquite Flats, and San Marcos River; each one is just over 1 mile long, so you can combine them for a good workout or make shorter trips if you’re traveling with kids. When it’s hot, cool off with a dip in the San Marcos River. The park offers paddleboard and kayak rentals, or you can bring a tube to enjoy a relaxing float.
How to Get to
Palmetto State Park
Palmetto State Park is located off of Highway 183 near Ottine, Texas. There are many ways to get there, but the easiest option for an RV is to take Interstate 10 from the east or west and turn south on Highway 183. You can also reach the park from the south on County Road 2091.
