Hiking and biking - With a network of 16 miles of trail to explore, it’s no wonder outdoor enthusiasts want to get familiar with this spot from the standpoint of their own two feet… or wheels.
Paddling, tubing, and boating - Encompassing 2.9 miles of the Frio River, if you’re looking to cool off from the Texas heat, you’ve got no shortage of options as far as how to do so! Plus, equipment rentals are available onsite.
Dancing - During the summertime, area youths (and those young at heart) gather in the state park’s concession building for a jukebox dance. The tradition dates back to the 1940s, and it’s one you’ll definitely want to swing by and experience.
Ranger programs and events - The park puts on a variety of events aimed at both entertainment and education. Take a guided hike or learn about geocaching, or get Junior excited about nature with the programs focused specifically on kids!

Entering Garner State Park
Those aged 13 and older will pay $8 to enter Garner State Park, while those 12 and under get in free. The park is open from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily, but be sure to check for schedule closures or capacity closures before planning your trip.

Frequently Asked Questions About Garner State Park
Early spring and mid to late fall are the best times to visit the park because the heat is extreme in the summer and much of the wildlife is hibernating or has migrated in the winter.
The park is hot and arid in the summer due to its location in the desert of Texas. Milder weather is common during fall and spring. The temperatures can drop below freezing in the winter.
Garner State Park is home to a variety of wildlife including coyotes, roadrunners, vultures, and various other birds. The park also has rare wildlife like javelinas and the Texas horned lizard.
There are over 200 RV sites at Garner State Park. All sites have water with different sites varying between 20-, 30-, and 50-amp electrical hookups. Despite the large number of sites, the lots are spacious and private.
It's not necessary to reserve a camping spot in the park; it's highly recommended, though. The cost ranges from $22 to $35 per night. You can reserve a camping spot online, in person, or over the phone.
