Edgar Evins State Park Campground

Edgar Evins State Park Campground offers 60 unique RV campsites. The RVs sit on concrete and steel-supported decks covered in wood at this park overlooking Center Hill Lake. These platforms accommodate RVs up to 40 feet in length. Next to the platform, each site is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and grate. Most of the campground is covered by second-growth pines that provide shade year-round. A dump station is located in a centralized position. Restrooms with flush toilets are sprinkled throughout the campground, and three strategically placed bathhouses offer hot showers. Edgar Evins State Park maintains a 300-slip marina and full-service boat dock. Fishing piers extend into the lake for those not inclined to take advantage of the marina's boat rental service.

Rock Island State Park Campground

Thirty miles southeast of Edgar Evins State Park lies Rock Island State Park. The park includes an RV campground with 50 sites equipped with fire rings, grates, and picnic tables. These campsites are all back-ins with the capability of handling rigs up to 45 feet in length. Restrooms with flush toilets, warm showers, and a laundry facility are supplied by the park for the guest's convenience. Located at Center Hill Lake's headwaters, the campground offers excellent access to the lake for fishing, swimming, kayaking, boating, and canoeing. A ramp allows easy launches of craft into the lake. Evenings often find children expending their energy in the playground while adults release tension with a game of horseshoes.

Hidden Harbor Marina

Located in Smithville, TN, Hidden Harbor Marina features 22 RV campsites, each with a fire ring and picnic table. Though the campground is small, its campsites are spacious and separated. The campground lies along the shore of Center Hill Lake under a thick canopy of second-growth trees. Shade in the summer is not an issue for these sites. Six miles of hiking trails take visitors outside the campground and along the shores of the lake. The park provides restrooms with flush toilets, bathhouses with hot showers, and a waste dump station. A boat ramp allows easy access to the lake, and boat rentals are available at the camp store.

Edgar Evins State Park

In the observation tower at the visitor center, there is an excellent view of the lake and hillsides. Edgar Evins State Park also has a large marina, a restaurant, and a gift shop. Sunset Point Peninsula, featuring a lovely view of the lake and the sun setting, is an open-space venue where you can have family reunions, weddings, and other gatherings. You can also reserve The Tower for events.

Edgar Evins State Park is known for its bird-watching opportunities and the excellent fishing found in Center Hill Lake. Rare birds that periodically occupy the park include three different owl species, numerous hawks, wintering bald eagles, and the super-rare cerulean warbler. Of the four trails that wander through the park, some are rated easy while others are considered challenging. Center Hill Lake harbors several fish species, including trout, smallmouth bass, bream, and walleye. 

Fishing Fishing

With several annual fishing tournaments held on Center Hill Lake, it's an excellent spot for fishing in Tennessee. Species that you can catch include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, spotted bass, black crappie, channel catfish, walleye, and trout. Bass fishing at the lake is best during spring and fall, but it's still decent in the summer.

Geocaching Geocaching

Tell Me a Story is a kid-friendly geocache at Edgar Evins State Park. It's found somewhere along Storybook Trail, a route that has pages from famous children's books displayed along the way.

Edgar Evins State Park is home to hawks, owls, and wintering bald eagles. In the summer, you may be able to spot Cerulean warblers and various other songbirds. Marina Trail offers good wildlife viewing opportunities, especially for birds. Other wildlife in the park include scarlet tanagers, summer tanagers, ospreys, eastern cottontail rabbits, nine-banded armadillos, southern flying squirrels, eastern chipmunks, and bats.

Stargazing Stargazing

Spend some time by the water at night for a stunning view of the night sky. You can take enchanting photos of the scenery. The park sometimes offers nighttime photography classes to help you perfectly capture the moment.

Flora and Fauna

Edgar Evins State Park features mixed hardwood forests. Some of the top flora include tulip poplar, buckeye, wild cherry, oak, and hickory. Other flora that grow in the park are shooting stars, hyacinths, yucca, western wallflowers, prickly pear cacti, and paw paw trees. Millennium Loop Trail is a good place for seeing shooting stars in spring. Merritt Ridge Trail has hyacinths, yucca, and western wallflowers.

Hiking Hiking

Millennium Loop Trail travels along an old roadbed that used to lead to the Wolf Creek Community. You will see two old stone walls and two homestead remnants on this trail, and owls live in the area, so you may hear them hooting. Merritt Ridge Trail features overlooks that offer stunning views of the lake and surrounding area. Other noteworthy trails in Edgar Evins State Park are Dunham Cemetery Trail, Evins Ridge Trail, Highland Rim Nature Loop Trail, and Marina Trail.

Boating

You can go boating in a kayak, canoe, pontoon boat, houseboat, or jet ski on Center Hill Lake. There are three boat launches at the park. One of the boat ramps is off Highway 70 on Indian Creek Road, and the other two are in the developed end of the park.

Swimming Swimming

You can swim at Center Hill Lake as long as you're not in the boat launch areas. There are a few roped-off swimming areas around the lake, but no lifeguards.

Edgar Evins State Park, located at 1630 Edgar Evins State Park Road Silver Point, TN 38582, is hilly, but RVs can still easily navigate the park roads. From Silver Point, travel west on TN-141 W and turn left onto Edgar Evins State Park Road. You'll find the park office about 1.5 miles down the road. Travel farther to reach the marina.
