Aiken State Park Campgrounds

You don't have to leave this state park when you book an RV site. Every site consists of packed sand, and there are individual water and electric hookups. Some of these campsites can accommodate a rig up to 35 feet in length. Throughout the campground, there are comfort stations with hot showers and restrooms. There is even a dump station located near the grounds. If you want a more primitive location, Aiken State Park has a few sites for the night. All the campsites include a picnic table and fire ring.

Pine Acres Campground

If you want to stay out of the state park for the night, then you might want to secure a spot at Pine Acres Campground. This RV campground is just outside of Aiken. The campground has 43 sites that can accommodate rigs up to 40 feet in length. Most of the sites offer full hookups. Since the manager lives on the property, you never have to worry about maintenance or other issues. For some added comfort and convenience, this campground is equipped with modern showers and restrooms. Propane is also available for purchase from the office. Good Sam and AARP members can receive some discounts on the nightly fees. If you are not a member of those clubs, the daily rates start at $30 per night.

Inside Aiken State Park

The South Edisto River winds through Aiken State Park. For that reason, this state park is a popular destination for water-based activities. However, motorized boats are not allowed on the public lakes. You can take a canoe and paddle down the river. In addition to that, this state park is the perfect spot to hike around and see the scenic landscape. 

Outside Aiken State Park

Aiken State Park is outside of Windsor and close to Aiken. You can take a break from the outdoors and head inside for dinner. There are plenty of spots to pick up groceries or learn more about this area's history.

If you want to dine on some American classics, then you need to visit Betsy's Round the Corner. This full-service eatery offers lunch and dinner. You will want to try the chocolate milkshakes, specialty sandwiches, and homemade soups. Throughout the week, there are even "Blue Plate Specials" on the menu. On Saturdays, the breakfast menu features classic dishes and plenty of grits.

Aiken County Historical Museum

The Aiken County Historical Museum is an excellent spot to learn about the history of the local area. The collection is housed in a Winter Colony mansion from the 1930s. On the grounds, you can find a log cabin built in 1808 and an 1890s one-room schoolhouse. The exhibits feature artifacts and photographs related to the Aiken County area. There is no charge to visit the museum or the grounds.

Barnwell State Park

There is another state park located near Aiken. Barnwell State Park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. This state park is known for its lakes. You can catch some bluegill or catfish from the pier. There are also hiking trails that wind through the park. Along with that, you can rent a cabin or stay at the campgrounds.

Aiken Thoroughbred Hall of Fame

The Aiken Thoroughbred Hall of Fame honors the trainers, jockeys, and horses from the area. This museum opened as a tribute to the flat racing and steeplechase horses from the Aiken area. You can visit the museum and see the displays that honor these racing professionals.

How to Get to
Aiken State Park

If you are traveling westbound on I-20, you will have to take Exit 33 towards Wagener. At the light, turn right and make an immediate right onto Highway 302. You can follow the road into the state park. From eastbound I-20, you should take Exit 22 onto Highway 1 toward Aiken. You need to stay on Highway 1 as it will turn into Highway 78. Make sure to follow the signs into the park.

Entering Aiken State Park

Aiken State Park is open from sunrise to sunset for day-use activities. South Carolina seniors and children can receive discounted entrance rates.
