Burr Oak State Park is a resort park in Glouster, Ohio that has plenty of wilderness to explore in addition to modern amenities at the rustic full-service lodge. Forested ridges, hollows, and a lake make up the terrain at Burr Oak State Park. Some of the trails intersect with the iconic Buckeye Trail, a 1,500-mile trail that stays completely in Ohio. Burr Oak State Park Campground
The Burr Oak State Park campground has 123 camping sites, and 17 of these offer electric hookups while the rest are primitive. The pad length in the sites can fit trailers between 25 and 60 feet long; be sure to check the length of the pad when reserving your campsite. You can reserve a site online or by phone, depending on the availability, up to a year in advance. The primitive sites have a campfire grill, so you can prepare your meals outdoors. You can also use your generator if you get one of these sites without an electric hookup. You can bring your pet, but keep it on a leash and under supervision at all times. Showers and modern restrooms are available. There are also water spigots and an RV dump site. Most of the campsites are within walking distance of the horseshoe court, playground, and lake. You can hire games and sporting equipment from the park office. Nightly rates start at $22.

Burr Oak Cove Campground
Located less than 15 minutes from Burr Oak State Park, the Burr Oak Cove Campground is a small, wooded campground. It has only 19 camping units, so it's a good idea to try and arrive early. If you're looking for solitude some of the campsites offer seclusion. The sites, which open on April 15, offer picnic tables, modern toilets, clean drinking water, and parking. However, the campsites can only fit trailers up to 25 feet long. While camping in Burr Oak Cove Campground, you can fish the Burr Oak Reservoir. You can also hike the Lake View Trail, which takes you to Burr Oak Lake. You can bring your pets as long as you keep them on a leash. Nightly rates start at $10.

What to Do at
Burr Oak State Park
Practice archery at the archery range with targets including 10 meters, 15 meters, 20 yards, 30 yards, 40 yards, and 50 yards. Hunting, fishing, boating, and swimming are other permitted activities at Burr Oak State Park. There is an 18-hole disc golf course and a kid-friendly Storybook Trail that tells a children's story along the trail with overhead views of the lake. At the small library by the trail, you can take a book and leave a book. A reservable shelterhouse is also available at Burr Oak State Park.
Inside Burr Oak State Park
Burr Oak State Park is great for fishing as long as you have an Ohio fishing license and you remember to bring your fishing gear. Crappie and sunfish are common most times of the year, and catfish and carp are catchable during the hot summer months in July and August. Disc golfing and hiking are also common activities most times of the year. The hiking trails are 25 miles long and cover almost all the scenic parts of the park. If you visit in the colder months, you can hunt, ride a horse, or explore the wilderness of the park.
Fishing
At Burr Oak Lake, you can catch largemouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill and crappie. Most of the crappie are white, but there's a small population of black crappie too. It's common for anglers to catch largemouth bass that's around 18 inches. Ice fishing is allowed in the winter.
Nature Watching
Wildlife that you may see at Burr Oak State Park includes white-tailed deer, turkeys, ruffed grouses, beavers and box turtles. By the lake, you have a chance to see bald eagles, great blue herons, and waterfowl.
Stargazing
Burr Oak State Park is one of the best stargazing areas in Ohio. For unobstructed views of the night sky, head to the Astronomy Field in the Scout Camp area.
Flora and Fauna
The forest consists of oak trees, hickory trees, and hardwoods. In the spring, you can see the wildflowers in bloom, including Dutchman's breeches, orchids, violets, bloodroot, trillium, and hepatica.
Hiking
Walk around the lake on the Lakeview Trail, a 22-mile loop trail that has birdwatching opportunities and wildflowers. Wildcat Hollow Trail offers a five-mile and a 15-mile hike through ridgetops, stream bottoms, pine forests, and open meadows. There are wildflowers and birdwatching opportunities too. Horseback riders can take the Red Trail and Blue Trail to experience the scenery on horseback.
Boating
You can go boating on Burr Oak Lake in a boat with up to 10 horsepower. Boats with higher horsepower are allowed as long as you stay at a low speed. The park offers seasonal boat rentals. There are four boat launch ramps with restrooms near all of the ramps.
Swimming
On the northern side of the lake, you'll find a 500-foot swimming beach. Sand volleyball courts, restrooms, outdoor showers, and a picnic area are available. However, there aren't trash cans, so come prepared to pack out trash and food scraps.
How to Get to
Burr Oak State Park
Burr Oak State Park is located near the town of Glouster, in Ohio. From Glouster, travel along OH-13 N/OH-78 E/Broad Street, and turn right onto OH-78 E. After 4.1 miles, turn slightly left onto Burr Oak Lodge Road. At the first cross street, turn left to stay on Burr Oak Lodge Road, and turn left again. You'll then reach your destination within 0.6 miles.
