Jordan Lake State Recreation Area Campground

Cotten's Campground

Those in search of a more secluded experience might want to stay at Cotten's Campground. A local family operates this small campground, and they have 25 sites available for rent. The campground is only 1 mile from Jordan Lake, and all campsites have full hookups for your RV. Rates vary throughout the season, but before you head out to this site, you'll need to make a reservation.

Another family-owned campground is located in Moncure. You can find semiprivate spaces with full hookups for your RV at Goodwin's RV Campground. This campground is only a short drive from Jordan Lake. If you want to book a space at this location, you'll need a reservation. Since there are only 20 sites, space is limited. The grounds are near two convenience stores and only a mile from the local post office.

Jordan Lake State Recreation Area

Inside Jordan Lake State Recreation Area

With over 14,000 acres of land, there are plenty of things to see and do at Jordan Lake. In the recreational area, you can enjoy one of the seven swim areas. If you have a boat, there are several boating ramps. Hikers will want to set off and explore the 14 miles of trails across the hilly terrain. Most of the trails are easy, and they make for a perfect hike for the entire family. Many visitors come here to view the wildlife, including the bald eagles and ospreys. Finally, if you want to learn more about the area's ecology, make sure to stop by the visitor center's exhibit hall.

Apex Nature Park

Apex Nature Park is located on the southwest side of town. There are two distinct sections of the park: Seymour Athletic Fields and Apex Nature Park. This is a popular spot for volleyball, tennis, soccer, and disc golf, and you can even take your dog to this location to get some exercise. Apex Nature Park is also home to several hiking trails.

American Tabacco Trail

Those looking for a bit of a workout can head over to the American Tobacco Trail. This trail is 22.6 miles long, and it's part of the Rails-to-Trails project. The running and walking trails were once part of the railroad line that served the American Tobacco Company in the 1970s.

How to Get to
Jordan Lake State Recreation Area

If you want to reach the park's office, you can take I-40 to U.S. 64 West. Take that highway to Exit 98B and travel west. The park office will be located on the left side before the bridge crosses over Jordan Lake. 

Entering Jordan Lake State Recreation Area

The park is open throughout the year. However, most public areas will close by 8:00 p.m. The following entrance fees only apply to Memorial Day through Labor Day and weekends in April, May, and September.
