The Falls Lake State Recreation Area consists of seven access points at various places around the 12,000-acre Falls Lake Reservoir. Each access point offers unique opportunities to play on the water and go fishing. Each also offers spectacular scenery. There are five swimming beaches, so you can easily find one with plenty of space for your entourage. The Mountains-to-Sea State Trail runs through some access points while others some different hiking opportunities. This park's headquarters is located about 13 miles northwest of Wake Forest, 21 miles north of Raleigh, and 11 miles east of Durham, North Carolina.

What to Do at
Falls Lake State Recreation Area
Inside Falls Lake State Recreation Area
It may be difficult to choose your favorite area from the seven different Falls Lake State Recreation Area sites. Six of the areas offer boat ramps or launching facilities, and you can rent various watercraft at the Rolling View access point. Anglers regularly pull bass, bluegill, catfish, and crappie out of the lake. Sandling Beach, Rolling View, and Beaverdam offer sandy swimming beaches open to the public while Holly Point has a swimming beach open only to campers. Large picnic facilities are available at Sandling Beach, Rolling View, and Beaverdam that you can reserve for special events.
Outside Falls Lake State Recreation Area
This park's location in the Research Triangle means that you're in one of North Carolina's biggest metro areas. There are excellent places to dine and shop along with numerous attractions you will want to visit. This state park's proximity to some of North Carolina's largest cities makes it a great area to explore.

How to Get to
Falls Lake State Recreation Area
The Visitors Center at Falls Lake State Recreation Area is easy to reach from Wake Forest, North Carolina. Get on NC-98 W/Durham Road when leaving town. Turn left on NC-50 N/Creedmoor Rd, and you will reach the Visitors Center in about 1.7 miles. You will pass the Beaverdam area and the Highway 50 area before getting to the Visitors Center. These directions will also take you to the Sandling Beach area, which is located a short distance further down the road.
If you want to go to the B.W. Walls Campground area from Wake Forest, then take NC-98 west out of Wake Forest. Turn right on Stony Hill Road. This campground is at the intersection of Stony Hill Road and Bent Road.
Reach the Holly Point Campground from Wake Forest by following NC-98 west to New Light Road. Turn right and continue on this road to reach this area. After turning on New Light Road, you will pass this park's Shinleaf campground area.
The last area of this park is the Rolling View area. Again, take NC-98 west out of Wake Forest. Turn right on Southview Road and another right on Baptist Road.

Park hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily from November to February, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in March and April, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. May to August and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in September and October.
