- Percy Quin State Park
Located in southern Mississippi, Percy Quin State Park is a 1,700-acre park filled with striking scenery — from loblolly pines and magnolia trees to rolling hills and green fields — but its crowning glories are the expansive Lake Tangipahoa and Quail Hollow golf course. Established in 1935, the park was named after Percy Quin, a Mississippi politician and ardent philanthropist. It was also one of Mississippi’s first state parks constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps, a group of young men employed to build state parks across the country during the Great Depression.
Thanks to Mississippi’s mild climate, visitors can enjoy activities at Percy Quin State Park year-round. Lake Tangipahoa has beautiful panoramic views, as well as prime opportunities for waterskiing, fishing, and boating. Miles of nature trail loop around the lake, where visitors can admire tall evergreen trees and colorful wildflowers, cross over wooden bridges, and spot various wildlife like deer, geese, and alligators. Visitors can also check out the Olympic-sized swimming pool, play on the tennis court, or putt around the 18-hole Quail Hollow golf course. From May to October, the park also hosts special events like Camp Sunshine, MS Tour for Cure, and Halloween festivities.
Whether you want to beat the summer heat by playing in Lake Tangipahoa or hike through the forest in the brisk winter air, Percy Quin State Park is the perfect getaway. Read further for more information on where to eat, sleep, and play during your trip.
