Natchez State Park is located 10 miles north of Natchez, MS. Natchez is the oldest settlement along the Mississippi River, having been settled by the French in 1716. The park features a lake that is roughly 230 square acres in size, which can be used for fishing and boating. Nearby Natchez has numerous options for grabbing some classic Southern cooking and taking in live entertainment. This area is also a good spot to hop onto the Mississippi Blues Trail, a collection of over 200 geographical markers that trace the history of American blues music.

Plantation RV Park is one of the closest campgrounds to Natchez State Park, and it has been serving the region for decades. It retains the charm and elegance of the historical area while also offering unforgettable views of nature. There are a variety of amenities on the premises, such as an on-site general store, free Wi-Fi and a laundromat. RV hookups are available with both 30- and 50-amp service, and all of the sites come equipped with electricity and water.
Riverview RV Park
Riverview RV Park is a campground located by the scenic banks of the Mississippi River in the city of Vidalia. The RV park is conveniently located close to quality hunting locations, fishing spots and the historical Antebellum homes of Natchez. On-site amenities you can look forward to during your stay here are free Wi-Fi, a clubhouse, a hot tub, private restrooms and hot showers. The campground also includes a useful supply store and has a dog-friendly policy.

Natchez State Park
Whether you are just coming for the afternoon or staying for a few days, you will find plenty to keep you occupied at Natchez State Park. If you are into fishing, this is a famous hotspot for bass fishing since the largest largemouth in Mississippi history was caught here in 1992. The bass weighed an astonishing 18 pounds.
During October, the park is a great vantage point for watching the Great Mississippi balloon race that takes place in nearby Natchez. If you want to get some exercise while in the park, there is disc golf and a popular nature trail. Hiking and biking are also popular activities to enjoy at Natchez State Park.
Inside Natchez State Park
Natchez Lake is one of the most popular attractions in Natchez State Park, and you can use the beautiful waterfront setting for activities like fishing and swimming. The state record for the heaviest largemouth bass in Mississippi, which weighed in at 18.15 pounds, was caught in Lake Natchez. Those who own a boat or plan on renting one for the state park can head to the dock to get out on the water. Multiple nature trails and equestrian roadways are etched into the landscape, giving you brilliant views and opportunities to explore. There's even a 9-hole disc golf course for those who have experience or are interested in the sport.
Nature Watching
Nature enthusiasts will have the opportunity to take in gorgeous forested areas along the Natchez State Park Nature Trail. It is a trail that is open only to hikers and features all of the animals that call the park their home.
Stargazing
Night sky stargazing is encouraged for campers and non-campers at the park. Non-campers will have to finish their viewing of the night sky from within the park by 10 p.m. when the park closes.
Flora and Fauna
The Natchez State Park Nature Trail grants visitors the chance to view several plants that are native to Mississippi. The wildflowers come out after a good rain in the spring. In the fall, the hardwood trees, including maple, hickory, oak, turn brilliant shades of red, yellow, and orange.
Hiking
The Sunken Trace Trail is a trail in Natchez State Park that is generally considered an easy route for most hikers. It is 0.3 miles out and back, and it is unlikely that you will come across many other people, so it is a good route if you are looking for some solitude. Dogs are welcome, but they need to be leashed.
Boating
Those wishing to partake in boating can do so via a ramp that goes out onto the lake.
Biking
Biking is a favorite activity of many visitors to Natchez State Park. While there are no biking trails in the park, access to the Natchez Trace Parkway bicycle route is just three miles away.
How to Get to
Natchez State Park
From Natchez, MS, you are going to take US-61 N/US-84 E. Once on the highway, you will follow US-61 N for 8.3 miles. Next, you will turn right onto State Park Rd. for 0.4 miles. At Wickcliff Rd., you are going to turn left and follow it for another 0.4 miles. Finally, you will turn right and drive for 1.7 miles until you reach the campground.
Entering Natchez State Park
There is a day-use fee to enter the park, which is $2 per person. Children who are 5 years old or under are allowed to come into the park for free. There is a $10 per vehicle parking fee that includes up to four adults.

The best times of the year to visit Natchez State Park are the months between October and March. This is because the heat of the summer will have subsided and hurricane season will be over. October and November are also the best months to visit if you are planning on eating the local seafood in nearby Natchez. Hitting the town in February is also a must for visitors who want a taste of Mardi Gras but can't make it to New Orleans. It is said by locals that the spirit of Mardi Gras is so strong in New Orleans that it works its way over the border to Natchez. During the annual celebration, you can expect to find live bands, lit-up floats, and plenty of other examples of revelry happening in Natchez during this time. For hunters, this is also a good time of year to visit the park since permit deer hunting runs from October through January, and turkey hunting is available in March.
Visitors interested in local wildlife can find many interesting species that make the park their home. These include deer, wild turkey, waterfowl, and wild hogs. During your time at Natchez State Park, you may also encounter the two species of squirrels that are native to Mississippi, the eastern fox squirrel and the eastern gray squirrel. Quails, doves, and rabbits may also be spotted.
There are 50 designated RV campsites and eight camping sites that are reserved for tent camping only. The park also has 10 lakeside vacation cabin units that you can rent.
Reserving a camping spot is necessary, and the cost ranges from $17 to $32 per night. Primitive tent-only campsites are available for $17 a night, while RV sites can range from $25 to $32 per night. Advance reservations are subject to an $8 non-refundable reservation fee.
Dogs are allowed, but they must be kept on a leash and attended to at all time.
