- Buccaneer State Park
Although Buccaneer State Park was demolished during Hurricane Katrina in 2005, it was finally and beautifully restored in November of 2013. The beachside park is home to moss-draped oaks, marshlands, and the Gulf of Mexico. It was home to some notorious pirates in the late 1700s, and was a base for military operations for Andrew Jackson, known as Jackson’s Ridge. One of the popular draws of the park now, in modern times, is the Buccaneer Bay Water Park, which is open every summer.
The weather in the park isn’t too hot or cold, with average highs around 90 F, and lows of about 40 F. However, it IS Mississippi, and there is plenty of humidity that can make the temperature feel hotter than it is!
Spring 43-69 F
Summer 71-90 F
Fall 49-86 F
Winter 40-63 F

Inside Buccaneer State Park
There are lots of things to do at Buccaneer State Park. From water fun to other outdoor activities, here are some of the things you can do inside the park:
Buccaneer Bay Water Park: The 4.5 acre waterpark overlooks the Gulf of Mexico and is open for the summer. Splash in the wave pool, float in Pirate’s Lagoon. Hurtle down a waterslide, or let younger kids play in Lil’ Smuggler’s Cove kiddie pool. There is a separate fee for the waterpark.
Nature trail: More than eight years after 17,000 trees and other vegetation was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina, new growth has changed the landscape of the area. The 1.8 mile nature trail winds through oaks, magnolia, pines, and other plants and animals that live along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. At the gazebo over Mud Bayou canal, you may see brown or white pelicans, egrets, osprey, or feeding blue crabs.
Disc Golf: Jackson’s Ridge Par 3, 18-hole disc golf course has tight, open fairways, natural obstacles, and holes along the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. The course is challenging for experienced golfers, but designed for beginners as well. There is no extra charge to play.
