Muskegon State Park contains 1,233 acres and is a year-round outdoor paradise. Visitors are treated to three miles of shoreline, two of which are on Lake Michigan, while the other one mile is on Muskegon Lake. You can also explore the forested dunes, Snug Harbor, and multiple trails, as well as stay overnight in one of the park's two campgrounds.
If you are a winter sports enthusiast, Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park features an Olympian-designed luge track, an ice-skating trail that takes you through the woods, a sledding hill, a 1,300-foot dual zip line, and a one-of-a-kind summer luge track.
One of the park's popular attractions is the blockhouse, which sits atop the highest point in Muskegon County. This structure enables visitors to get a 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding area, including dense forests and the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Duck Creek RV Resort
One great option to consider when looking for places to stay is Duck Creek RV Resort. Located between Muskegon and Whitehall on the beautiful coast of Michigan, this RV park is filled with exciting amenities and a cozy atmosphere. You have the ability here to play golf, go out on the water, or just enjoy some time on the beach. The daily rate is $80 from Thursday to Sunday and $75 from Monday to Wednesday. During off-peak seasons, the daily rate is $50. Requesting a waterfront rental will run you an extra $10 on each of the aforementioned deals.
Fisherman’s Landing
Although Duck Creek RV Resort is great, you should also consider Fisherman’s Landing before you get to booking. This spot is located directly on Lake Muskegon and even includes a boat launch. In addition, the campground is securely set up with electricity, water, fire rings, and picnic tables. The views are also great, and you can spend some time at the fireworks viewing area to take it all in. The standard daily rate for a site at Fisherman’s Landing is $35, which is a great deal.

Muskegon State Park
Outdoor enthusiasts are sure to love Muskegon State Park due to its many activities, including hiking, fishing, paddlesports, and swimming. The Michigan State Park Explorer Program offers weekly nature-based programming between Memorial Day and Labor Day. If you love to be outdoors during the snowy winters, make sure to check out the Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park, which includes a luge track. Park visitors will also find a figure eight-shaped ice skating trail going through the woods during the winter.
Inside Muskegon State Park
Once you arrive at Muskegon State Mark, you will be thrilled with the number of exciting activities to choose from. The beautiful beaches that run along Lake Michigan and Lake Muskegon are wonderful places to relax, read a book, enjoy the sun, and catch a tan. If you are looking for more fast-paced activities, you can go boating and skiing instead. During winter, ice fishing is also available for those with the proper experience and knowledge. Fishing
There are two fishing locations within the park, Muskegon Lake and a fishing pier in Snug Harbor. Anglers can try catching a wide variety of species, including northern pike, large and smallmouth bass, panfish, lake trout, and salmon.
Nature Watching
Weekly nature programs run through the summer between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Park visitors can learn about the park's unique mammals, birds, and insects by attending these programs. The blockhouse, built in the 1930s, provides an amazing 360-degree view of the park.
Stargazing
While the campgrounds are tucked into wooded areas, there are ample opportunities to escape the trees to view the night sky in all its glory. The Lake Michigan shoreline is set far away from big city light pollution, providing an excellent stargazing opportunity.
Hiking
There are 12 miles of hiking trails you can explore within the park. These trails offer a variety of difficulties and numerous scenic views. Muskegon Dune Ridge Trail is for more experienced hikers as it sports several steep climbs and provides views of Muskegon Lake, Lake Michigan, and the channel. Muskegon Lost Lake Trail winds through a deep lowland to Lost Lake, which includes a small observation platform.
Boating
There is a boat launch located in Snug Harbor, which provides access to Muskegon Lake. This 4,150-acre lake is a highlight of the park and offers fishing opportunities as well as motorized water sports.
Swimming
A designated swimming area can be found in the day-use area on Lake Michigan. Parkgoers will need to be mindful of the beach flag warning system. Keep an eye out to see any posted red flags near the water, which means the water is currently unsafe for swimming.
How to Get to
Muskegon State Park
Muskegon State Park is located at 3560 Memorial Drive, North Muskegon, MI 49445. If you are traveling from Grand Rapids, MI, you will need to take I-96 west and then merge onto US-31 N. Traveling along US-31 N until exit 116. From here, you will take M-120 until you reach Lake Ave, where you will turn left. Follow Lake Ave until Ruddiman Dr and make another left-hand turn. Ruddiman Dr will turn into Memorial Dr, which will take you right to the park entrance.
Entering Muskegon State Park
Parking is available at the park entrance and the swimming area. A Michigan Recreation Passport is required for park entry. An annual pass can be purchased online for a $13 fee for residents. Non-residents can purchase a pass online for a $39 annual fee or opt for a day pass, which costs $11.
