Inside Wells State Park RV
There are lots of ways to experience Wells State Park. Interpretive programs that provide guided walks, hikes, campfire programs, and other recreational activities are ongoing all summer. Here are a few other activities inside the park:
Hiking: More than 10 miles of trails wind through the park. One popular route leads to a scenic vista at Carpenter Rocks, and you can see the eastern area and Walker Pond from the overlook.
Swimming: There is a swimming beach at Walker Pond that’s available (and popular!) during the summer.
Fishing: Wells State Park is a wonderful spot for anglers. There is a boat launch, so you can fish from your boat, or fish from shore as well.
Fishing
Walker Pond covers 104 acres and has a maximum depth of 16 feet. Fishing is available from the shore or your private boat. Some of the species found here are bridled shiners, golden shiners, white suckers, brown bullhead, pumpkinseed, bluegill, white and yellow perch, chain pickerel, and largemouth bass.
Nature Watching
This state park is brimming with wildlife in the woods and throughout the wetlands. Some species that you could find are turtles, white-tailed deer, cedar waxwings, foxes, eagles, chipmunks, raccoons, and numerous others. The hiking trails are the best spots to catch a glimpse of the local wildlife.
Stargazing
Wells State Park is removed from major urban hubs. Without significant light pollution, stargazing is a popular nighttime activity in the park. The best time for stargazing is in the winter months.
Hiking
More than 10 miles of trails wind through the woods and along the shore at Wells State Park. The most popular trail is Carpenter’s Rocks Trail, which is moderately strenuous and covers 1.5 miles. The other six trails range in difficulty, and they include the Mountain Bike Trail, the Grand Loop, the Mountain Road Trail, the North Trail, the South Trail, and Mill Pond Trail.
Boating
Boating is a popular activity at Walker Pond, and it is well-suited for both motorized and non-motorized vessels. The boat ramp is located in the center of the park close to the campgrounds.
Swimming
Walkers Pond is not among the best-known swimming spots in the region, so it is a relatively quiet place to cool off in the summer months. The beach area is relatively small, and there are adjoining mossy areas that can also be used as entry points to the water. In addition to swimming at the unguarded beach, water access is available at select campsites.
Biking
Mountain biking enthusiasts will love touring the wilderness at Wells State Park. The Mountain Bike Trail takes you on a mostly flat, well-groomed path that covers a 4.12-mile loop. It runs through the woodlands before dropping in elevation around a bend and passing along the Walker Pond shoreline.
