Featuring over 12,000 acres of compelling geographical features, Myles Standish State Park is the largest public recreation in the state of Massachusetts. It is split up between the towns of Plymouth and Carver, while Boston is approximately 45 minutes to the southeast. The state park is named after Myles Standish, an English military officer and advisor who accompanied the Pilgrims on the Mayflower and was critical to the defense of Plymouth Colony in 1620. Consisting mainly of scrub oak and pitch pine trees, the destination is part of a system of rare coniferous forests called the Atlantic coastal pine barrens ecoregion. Myles Standish State Park also surrounds 16 ponds and lakes that beautifully complement the lush greenery.

Bird watching is a great way to enjoy Myles Standish State Park; some of the species you may run into include the Eastern bluebird, pine warbler, Eastern towhee, and prairie warbler. Day-use areas are available at Fearing Pond and College Pond, which are both wonderful places for fishing, swimming, and kayaking. The premises include 13 miles of hiking trails, 15 miles of mountain biking trails, and 35 miles of horseback riding trails. Guests can participate in hunting at either of the recreation area's wildlife management areas during certain parts of the year. The summer months present opportunities to experience interpretive programs such as cranberry bog explorations and pond shore walks.
