Tuckahoe State Park covers 3,949 acres on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay in eastern Maryland. The Adkins Arboretum, a nature preserve and garden that protects over 600 native plant species, occupies 500 acres of the park. Most of the park surrounds the upper portions of Tuckahoe Creek. Early settlers found this portion of the Maryland eastern shore to be unproductive. An example of the area is 60-acre Tuckahoe Lake, where only 20 acres are open, and the rest is flooded woodland. The closest community is Queen Anne, MD, which is three miles away, and the nearest metropolitan area is Baltimore, MD, which sits 51 miles away.

Bay Shore Campground
If you are looking for a more comfortable place to camp than what is available at Tuckahoe State Park, look at Bay Shore Campground. The campground lies 40 miles northwest of the park. There are 27 paved RV sites. Three dump stations, two bathhouses with warm showers, and restrooms with flush toilets are provided by the park. A game room supplies extra treats for the kids. A children's playground, a basketball court, a volleyball court, and a boat ramp round out the campground's amenities. A section of the parking lot is dedicated to boat storage. This campground is highly manicured and well kept throughout the year. The favorite activity is relaxing and enjoying the view. The second favorite is fishing, which visitors can pursue on a boat or along the shore. Boat rentals are available at the camp store.

Martinak State Park
Martinak State Park lies 11 miles southeast of Tuckahoe State Park near Denton, MD. There are 33 RV campsites available at the campground. Campsites can handle rigs up to 35 feet in length. The campground occupies a wooded area sandwiched between the Choptank River and Watts Creek. The park has restrooms with flush toilets and a laundry facility. A playground lets children play during the day, a boat ramp on the Choptank River allows for large boats. Visitors can rent a boat at the camp store. Fishing is the main activity at this campground, with catfish, sunfish, and bass in plentiful supply. Hiking trails run along the Choptank River and cross along the campground's edge to reach Watts creek.

How to Get to

The closest town to Tuckahoe State Park is Queen Anne, MD. To get to the park from Queen Anne, head southeast on 1st Street toward Maryland Highway 303 North (MD-303 N). Turn right onto MD-303 N, drive for a quarter-mile, and turn right onto Maryland Highway 404 East (MD-404 E). After driving 1.25 miles on MD-404 E, turn left onto Maryland Highway 480 (MD-480 E) for a one-tenth mile. Turn left onto Eveland Road, and travel one mile to the park entrance.
Those traveling the 51 miles to Tuckahoe State Park from Baltimore will take Interstate 395 South (I-395 S) for one mile to Interstate 97 South/United States Highway 301 North (I-97 S/US-301 N). Travel I-97 S/US-301 N for 59 miles to Centerville. In Centerville, look for the exit onto Maryland Highway 304 East (MD-304 E). Drive six miles on MD-304 E and find the exit for Maryland Highway 481 South (MD-481 S) in Ruthsburg, MD. Take MD-481 S for two miles to the park entrance.
