New Germany State Park RV & Campground Guide

Maryland

New Germany State Park covers 483 acres adjacent to the Savage River State Forest in western Maryland. The park is in a mountainous area sandwiched between Big Savage Mountain to the east and Meadow Mountain to the west. Most of the park is covered in a dense forest. An artificial 13-acre lake sits in the center of the park at an elevation of 2,470 feet. The lake was formed in the late 1800s by damming Poplar Lick Run to create waterpower for local businesses; it was developed further by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s to create a recreation area. The closest community is Grantsville and the nearest city with a substantial population in Cumberland.
