Assateague State Park is located in Worcester County, Maryland on the gorgeous Assateague Island. The state park is home to a variety of wild animals such as feral horses, deer, and more. It attracts outdoor lovers and beach goers from all over the United States, and has much to offer in terms of recreation.
As is the case in the rest of Maryland, the temperatures at Assateague State Park tend to be on the cooler side. Summer temperatures rarely exceed the mid-80s (°F), but humidity can make this seem quite warm. Meanwhile, winter temperatures are quite cold, with average lows in the 20s alongside wet weather. Spring is windy and warm, while fall is the most pleasant season of all, with temperatures ranging from the 50s to the 70s.

Winner of multiple “top campground” awards, Castaways RV Resort and Campground is the place to go for a lovely, relaxing getaway. This is truly a resort, with plenty to eat, drink, and do onsite. Of course, you will want to take advantage of this fact, but don’t forget to leave once in a while to see Assateague State Park, as well as the other local attractions!

Fort Whaley RV Resort and Campground
Owned by the same folks who own Frontier Town, Fort Whaley Resort is another well-kept campground with enough amenities to keep anyone happy. While this particular RV park may be a bit further from Assateague State Park, it’s still close enough and definitely worth a bit of a drive.

Walking/Hiking — There are plenty of beautiful places to take a walk at the park. Why not pack a picnic lunch to enjoy along the way and make a day of it?
Beach Play — A day at the beach is always a blast. Whether you choose to simply bask in the sunlight or enjoy the ocean waves, fun is never far away when you’re by the seaside.
Fishing — Many people enjoy taking advantage of the fishing opportunities offered by Assateague State Park. Don’t forget to bring your fishing gear so you can join them.
Wildlife Observation — With awesome animals such as feral horses roaming the park, taking a few minutes to stop and really appreciate all that nature has to offer is a must.

There’s really only one way to get to Assateague State Park. Begin by taking MD-611 S to Assateague Island. Once there, turn right onto Stephen Decatur Highway and watch for signs for the park.

Entering Assateague State Park Guide
Fees to enter the park vary based on season. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, the price is $4 per person (or $6 per person if you are from out of state). The rest of the year the fee is per vehicle: $3 per vehicle for MD residents and $5 per vehicle for everyone else.
