Cross Timbers State Park

is situated in the Verdigris River Valley's rolling hills in southeast Kansas, 12 miles west of Yates Center in Woodson County. This region was originally a hunting and camping ground of Native Americans of the Osage Nation. The park consists of 1,075 acres in Kansas's northern area, providing many access points to the 2,800-acre Toronto Reservoir. The forested flood plains surrounded by oak savannah hills and prairie terraces provide amazing opportunities for RV vacationers to be immersed in the most diverse habitat of Kansas. Squirrels, rabbits, white-tailed deer, and various bird species call this place home. Cities within the vicinity of the state park are Toronto, Fredonia, and Yates Center.

Santa Fe Safari RV Campground

Santa Fe Safari RV Campground features 28 paved stalls with some adjacent to the Lakeview Recreation Area. The campground uses an honor system for all campground fees.

Inside Cross Timbers State Park

Begin your visit to Cross Timbers State Park by staying at one of the campgrounds; after settling in, you can go hiking on the 16 miles of nature trails or use your mountain bike to travel through the beautiful picturesque scenery. Many vacationers enjoy fishing in the river and on the reservoir; both are noted for excellent places to catch channel catfish, white bass, sunfish, bluegill, and black bass. The river and reservoir are also great for kayaking, canoeing, and other watersports. There is a swimming beach area where you can build a sandcastle, swim, or take in the rays. Other activities to do inside the state park are wildlife observation, bird-watching, and hunting in designated areas.

Old Mill Dam

The Mill is situated on Fall River about half an hour from the state park. The last part of the road leading up to Old Mill Dam can be quite rocky and rough to travel on, so it's recommended to park and walk the remaining 100 yards of the road. Here, you can explore the structure of the Mill.

How to Get to
Cross Timbers State Park

If you're traveling from the city of Toronto, you'll want to head south on North Jackson Street toward East Main Street. Turn left at the first cross street onto KS-105 Southeast Main Street. Follow it for 5.6 miles and then turn right to stay on KS-105 South. Travel for less than two miles, and the state park will be on the right.

Entering Cross Timbers State Park

Cross Timbers State Park's hours of operation are from sunup to sundown seven days a week. The office itself is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
