Honey Creek Resort State Park sits in Appanoose County, Iowa, along the shores of Rathbun Lake. The 828-acre park consists of a hunting area, fish hatchery, and an adjacent resort. The weather is most pleasant in June, August, and September, with July being among the comfortable months, but it may get very hot with an average high of 85.6 degrees. In December the snow might cover the surface with a layer 6.4 inches thick. Centerville, a 25-mile drive to the south, is the nearest town where you can shop and dine. Some other nearby communities include Ottumwa, Pella, and Oskaloosa.

The easiest way to experience nature is to get out there and camp for a few days; however, sleeping on a very thin mattress inside a small tent may limit the fun you have while out in the camp. Honey Creek State Park North Campground
The Honey Creek State Park offers enough space for at least 20 large RVs and trailers in the northern section of the campground. You can park an RV up to 90 feet long. Once you are there, you will enjoy hook-ups that connect you to electricity lines, water, and sewer lines. During summer, the campground may be busy. As such, you might need to reserve your spot early in advance. From the North Campground, you will access amenities such as the Business Center, Laundry Center, and the gym. While there, you can also enjoy a visit to the Nature Center, which offers many more fun activities. Rates start at $34/day.
Honey Creek State Park South Campground
In the south campground, Honey Creek State Park features 54 camping sites. Most of the sites can accommodate a 35-foot rig. While there, you can connect to water, electricity, and a sewage system. Like the North Campground, you can access four Buccaneer Bay Indoor Waterpark wristbands to enjoy your stay at the camp even more. If you choose this site, you will be a little far from the water but still have easy access. Rates start at $34/night.
Island View Park Campground
Located on the southeast end of Rathbun Lake, Island View Park offers another great camping option in the region. This large campground features 187 sites, all of which have electrical hookups. Furthermore, it has flush and pit toilets, showers, drinking water, and a dump station. There are also picnic areas and plenty of great access areas to the lake. Rates start at $18 a night.

It's important to note that the resort, which has a variety of lodging options, is actually adjacent to Honey Creek State Park. If you want indoor activities, the Buccaneer Bay Indoor Water Park, which is in the Honey Creek Resort, offers fun for families without having to go far from your RV.
How to Get to
Honey Creek Resort State Park
If you are in Moravia, Iowa, take Highway J18 and drive for about 20 minutes into the park. Those in Des Moines can drive through Highway US-69 to IA-5 and drive to the resort state park. Roads into the park have nice pavement, and anyone driving an RV will find sufficient parking in the park.
