In the midst of the Chattahoochee National Forest, Vogel State Park’s plentiful trees make it a one-of-a-kind place to visit during the fall. The gorgeous autumn colors are a treat you won’t soon forget! Go hiking, swimming, or fishing in the mountains at one of Georgia’s oldest state parks. Plentiful hiking takes you by waterfalls, lakes, mountains, and other scenic views. The park was developed in large part by the Civilian Conservation Corps and you can learn more about those contributions while you’re there as well.
The weather does get down into the 20s in winter (you’re in the mountains, after all!) and doesn’t get uncomfortably hot in summer - topping out in the low 80s. It rains about a week a month, with slightly more rain in spring than the rest of the year.

Vogel State Park
Inside Vogel State Park
There’s plenty to do as you explore the mountains and forests at Vogel State Park. The park is especially popular in fall, when the Blue Ridge Mountains are ablaze with autumn color. There are a variety of hiking trails, including the popular 4-mile Bear Hair Gap loop which leads to Trahlyta Falls. Other activities in the park include:
Fishing and paddling: The park’s 22-acre lake is open to non-motorized boats for fishing, or canoe or kayak around the lake to explore.
Swimming: The lake is also open for swimming during the summer at the mountain-view beach. Spend the day hopping in the lake to cool off, and enjoying the views lakeside when you want to get out and relax.
CCC museum: The Conservation Corp was instrumental in building the features and facilities the park uses to this day. Learn more about the contributions of the “CCC Boys” in the park’s museum.

From Suches, take State Route 180 toward E. Fortenberry Cir. Turn right onto US-129/US-19 S. Turn right onto Vogel State Park Rd.
