Chattahoochee Bend State Park is in northwest Coweta County, about 30 miles south of Atlanta, Georgia. At just under 3,000 acres, it is one of Georgia's largest parks and includes about five miles of shoreline on the famous Chattahoochee River. There are more than six miles of wooded trails for hiking and nature photography along with a boat ramp for easy access to the river. Chattahoochee Bend State Park is best known as a haven for paddlers, anglers and campers. Kayaking and canoeing, as well as fishing, are popular activities throughout the park because of its proximity to the Chattahoochee River. As far as camping goes, there are RV sites, primitive camping opportunities, cottage rentals and even paddle-in camping spots.

McIntosh Reserve Park
Comprising a 527-acre recreational area in Whitesburg, McIntosh Reserve Park is a 30-minute drive from Chattahoochee Bend. It also flows along the Chattahoochee River banks, which makes it a favorite among campers. The campground features well-maintained campsites and a peaceful environment with historic sites. It's a great spot to learn about Creek Indian history in particular.

South Oaks Manufactured RV Park
South Oaks Manufactured RV Park is located next to a creek in Palmetto. This RV park is in a good location. It provides easy access to Highway 85. The park is only 15 minutes from Peachtree City and 30 minutes from downtown Atlanta. South Oaks is also a good park for a long-term stay.

Chattahoochee Bend State Park
Its location along the shores of the Chattahoochee River makes Chattahoochee Bend State Park a great place to enjoy water sports like fishing, canoeing, kayaking and boating. There are multiple boat ramps and access points throughout the park. It is also, at just under 3,000 acres, one of the largest state parks in Georgia, so there is ample room for camping and hiking. Whether you are in an RV or sleeping under the stars, there are plenty of places within Chattahoochee Bend State Park to enjoy the natural beauty of the Chattahoochee River. If you want to take a day trip during your stay, places like Atlanta, Callaway Gardens and Great Wolf Lodge are all within driving distance of the park.
Inside Chattahoochee Bend State Park
Chattahoochee Bend State Park is a quiet, well-maintained park with a beautiful raw forest. Visitors can experience six miles of nature trails filled with unique plants and wildlife. The watchtower is a unique feature of the park that offers a great view near a clearing by the river. Many of the trails follow the Chattahoochee River, which is one of the area's main features. Other activities campers can enjoy include biking, boating, fishing, geocaching, hiking, and paddling along the river in a canoe or kayak rental.
Fishing
Chattahoochee Bend State Park is located on the banks of the Chattahoochee and just north of West Point Lake. There is no shortage of fishing opportunities inside the park and in the surrounding area. Whether you prefer fishing from the bank, a boat or a kayak there are plenty of fishing adventures available on the Chattahoochee. Some fish species you may catch include crappie, sunfish, channel catfish, bluegill, and several types of bass.
Geocaching
There are geocaching opportunities throughout the Georgia State Park system, and that includes Chattahoochee Bend State Park. Just bring your GPS-enabled device, and search for geocaching opportunities in the area.
Nature Watching
Whether you're hiking, out on the water or visiting one of the observation platforms, Chattahoochee Bend State Park offers a lot of nature-watching opportunities. There is wildlife, scenic river passes and beautiful wooded areas throughout the 3,000 acres. Some animals you may see in the park include American beavers, red foxes, big brown bats, timber rattlesnakes and snapping turtles.
Stargazing
While Chattahoochee Bend State Park is close to a couple of big cities, it is also far enough away to be secluded and offer great stargazing opportunities. There are multiple primitive and tent campsites throughout the park, so you can lay your head down in nature and look up at the stars.
Hiking
There are more than 12 miles of hiking trails scattered throughout the park. These trails are well-marked and shaded so that you can enjoy hiking even in the summer. The terrain is pretty flat, and the scenery is perfect for photo shoots and nature photography as well.
Boating
The Chattahoochee River is a great place to go boating, and there are multiple boat ramps and river access throughout the park.
Swimming
While the river is great for boating and fishing, it is not ideal for swimming. It is muddy and unclear, especially near the shore.
Biking
There are three miles of mountain biking trails in Chattahoochee Bend State Park, and mountain bikes are not permitted on any of the nature trails. The mountain biking trails are Black Racer Trail, Hognose Trail, Coachwhip Trail, Rough Green Trail and Ringneck Trail.
How to Get to
Chattahoochee Bend State Park
If you are coming from Newnan, GA, take Highway 34 West to Thomas Powers Road, and turn right. Continue 5.5 miles, and turn right onto Flat Rock Road. Proceed approximately a mile to the park entrance.
If you are coming from Carrollton, GA, take Highway 16/Alt 27, and turn right onto Wagers Mill Road. After 3.3 miles, turn right onto Boone Road, travel 1.4 miles and turn left onto Payton Road. Travel 0.4 miles, turn right onto Mt. Carmel Road and proceed three more miles before turning right onto Bud Davis Road. Go 1.8 miles, and turn right onto Flat Rock Road. The entrance to the park will be about a mile down the road.

There is ample parking throughout Chattahoochee Bend State Park. There is an entry fee of $5 per day. You can also purchase an annual ParkPass for $50.

The best time to visit is the spring and fall seasons. The temperature is mild enough to not be too hot, but you can still enjoy the water as well. In the fall, the leaves change color, providing a gorgeous, colorful backdrop.
