- Rocky Neck State Park
Located on Long Island Sound near the bustling communities of Waterford and Old Lyme, Connecticut, Rocky Neck State Park has a bit of everything. Before becoming a state park in the 1930s, Rocky Neck spent the 19th century as a plot for various fertilizer companies. Nowadays, this 708-acre park is open to the public and boasts tidal rivers and white sand beaches. Higher up, a 356-foot wood and stone pavilion stands as a reminder of the struggles of the Great Depression and is the largest Depression-era structure in Connecticut. Rocky Neck State Park is great for many activities, including fishing, hiking, and picnicking.
