Things To Do Near Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Grove
Bring your bike to Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Grove on the Potomac as the Mount Vernon Trail passes through it, making it a fantastic car-free place to ride. The meadow is a terrific place to enjoy a picnic and go bird-watching. The Boundary Channel runs along this park’s edge, and it is an excellent place for a kayaking adventure. There are great places to rest and soak in the scenery at this location on Columbia Island.

The Mount Vernon Trail starts at George Washington’s Mount Vernon and runs along the Potomac River to Theodore Roosevelt Island. This paved trail is also open to bicyclists. Boardwalks take you across swampy areas.

Donaldson Run Trail
The Donaldson Run Trail begins at Potomac Overlook Regional Park by heading down a steep trail to the Potomac River. Then, it follows the river to the east until it reaches the rock jumble at Windy Point. This out-and-back trail runs by some historic boating equipment.

Scott’s Run Loop Hike
Park in the east parking lot at Scotts Run Nature Preserve. The beginning of this hike that starts out going north is shared with the Stubblefield Falls Overlook Trail, allowing you to see the small waterfall. Then, it turns to the right and runs along through a beautiful wooded area. Finish by climbing the slippery slope of the nearby bluff near the American Legion Bridge to enjoy stunning views of the Potomac before returning to its starting point.

Fort Macy
Soldiers hastily constructed Fort Macy during the Civil War to protect the Chain Bridge as it was one of the only ways to get from Virginia to Washington, D.C. They moved a massive amount of dirt to create trenches and earthwork walls that you can still see today.
