James A. Garfield National Historic Site

James A. Garfield National Historic Site is located in Mentor, Ohio, and it commemorates the life and accomplishments of the 20th President of the United States, James Abram Garfield. It includes Garfield's former home, his surrounding properties, and the first presidential library to be established in the country. He bought the home in 1876 and eventually ran the first successful front porch campaign from it in the presidential election of 1880. After a $12.5 million project that took place in the 1990s, the national historic site is among the most carefully restored and highly detailed in the nation. The National Park Service took the time to reproduce wallpaper from old photographs of the home's interior, giving the site an even greater sense of authenticity. It includes a vast array of ancient Victorian furniture, most of which was owned by the Garfields themselves.
