Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument

Climb through the ancient homes of the Mogollon culture at the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. This is one of the last places in the United States to allow access to the cliff dwellings. Follow in the footsteps of the original residents as you climb tall wooden ladders into the stone rooms, which are built inside caves perched high on the rocky cliffs. The masonry is remarkably well-preserved, giving you an unprecedented peek at life in the year 1200. The monument is tucked into a remote section of New Mexico's wild and rugged Gila Wilderness. Bring your RV and set up a home base in the campground for a few days of hiking, fishing, and breathtaking views.
