Suitland Parkway

The Suitland Parkway connects Washington D.C. and Prince George's County in Maryland. Plans for the Suitland Parkway came about in 1937, and it was built during World War II as a shortcut between military facilities in the Washington, D.C. area. This nearly 10-mile stretch of roadway gives you a wonderful view of the trees on either side, and signs from historic railroads still stand at certain points along the road. The parkway is in close proximity to many activities and sights in Maryland and Washington, D.C.

Things To Do Near Suitland Parkway

There's plenty for RV enthusiasts to check out at Suitland Parkway. Give the easy-going Suitland Parkway Trail a try, or visit one of the many museums in the nearby area. Learn about national and world history at the Smithsonian Institute, or visit the International Spy Museum to learn all there is to know about espionage. With restaurants and shops galore, you'll always have something to do.

  • Suitland Parkway Trail

    You can find this short, multi-use trail near Suitland Parkway. It is paved and flat, making it great for hikers of any skill level. Parts of it run alongside traffic, while others run under tree cover.

  • Oxon Run Trail

    The Oxon Run Trail takes you past grassy fields and a shining river. The paved path makes it great for beginners and bikers, and the historic Potomac River can be glimpsed from most parts of the path. You can find picnic tables set up by the river in certain areas.

  • Anacostia River Trail

    The Anacostia River Trail consists of wide paths of asphalt, boardwalk, concrete, and stone. The waterside trail spans both sides of the Anacostia River in Maryland and Washington, D.C. Throughout your adventure, you'll come across thick woods, quiet roads, overpasses, and streams snaking their way into the Anacostia River.

  • National Mall

    The National Mall contains many artifacts and memories from the United States' history, all on 1,000 acres of land. It contains the Washington Monument, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial, and much more. The park also contains 2,000 American Elms and 3,000 Japanese cherry trees.

  • Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens

    The Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens is a place of natural wonder. Take in different ecological biomes that include fields, marshes, and pools. Keep an eye out for animals like deer, muskrats, otters, and turtles, as well as plants such as 500-year-old lotuses. Activities for kids are available, including tours and art sessions.

  • Washington Canal Park

    This three-acre park is a popular tourist destination in Washington, D.C. Having opened in 2012, it hosts seasonal markets, events, and coordinated dancing fountains. Ice skating is popular in the winter months.

    Anyone wanting to learn about the history of the planet should visit the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. Go through all of the geological ages of history, from the age of the dinosaurs to the dawn of humanity. It hosts hundreds of exhibits, and admission is always free.

  • International Spy Museum

    Milton Maltz, a code-breaker in the Korean War, had an idea for a museum in 1996. In 2002, his idea became a reality. At the International Spy Museum, you can find more than 700 artifacts, films, and photos on display, all detailing the ancient history of the art of espionage. The cost of entrance is $24.95 for adults and $16.95 for children over 6.

How To Get To Suitland Parkway

Suitland Parkway connects central Maryland to Washington D.C. Head east on I-495 N/I-95, then take exit 7B to merge onto MD-5N/Branch Ave toward Silver Hill. Follow for about 1.5 miles. Use the right lane to take the ramp onto MD-414 E/St Barnabas Rd. Turn right onto Silver Hill Rd, and then turn right to merge onto Suitland Pkwy toward Washington.
