Korean War Veterans Memorial

The Korean War Veterans Memorial is south of the National Mall's Reflecting Pool. The first part of this Washington D.C. memorial is a wall intersecting a circle, and the wall has over 2,300 photos from the conflict sandblasted into it. The next part of the memorial consists of 19 stainless steel statues of patrolling soldiers in full uniform. Immediately to the north is another wall designed to represent the United Nations. The memorial ends with a black granite reflecting pool.

Things To Do Near Korean War Veterans Memorial

Pay your respects to the United States and United Nations soldiers who perished in the Korean War by visiting the Korean War Veterans Memorial. This memorial in West Potomac Park is very near the National Mall. Take time to study the sandblasted photos of people, places, and things involved with this conflict and reflect on the number of casualities engraved into the last wall. See if you can identify if each of the statues belonged to the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy Corpsman, or Air Force Forward Air Observer.

It winds its way by 12 key sites near or on the National Mall, including the Korean War Memorial, United States Department of Defense, and Lincoln Memorial.   • Tidal Basin Loop Trail

    The Tidal Basin Loop Trail starts at the 10-foot-tall Japanese Lantern given to America to commemorate 100 years of trading with Japan. It circles the Tidal Basin, running past the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial and the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. Many Japanese-influenced sights are along this trail, including the Yoshino cherry trees and the Japanese Pagoda. This trail ends at the Kutz Memorial Bridge.

  • Constitution Gardens Trail

    The Constitution Gardens Trial runs through the Constitution Gardens on the National Mall. This trail starts near the Vietnam Women's Memorial and runs by the Memorial to the 56 Signers of the Declaration of Independence until it reaches the Lockkeeper's House. See several types of trees, including weeping willows and yellowwoods, along this trail.

  • Lincoln Memorial

    One of America's most recognized sites, the Lincoln Memorial, is a Greek Doric temple containing Abe's statue. The north wall of the memorial includes the engraved words of the Gettysburg Address, while the south wall includes photos and paintings of the 16th president. Like other sites on the National Mall, it is open 24 hours a day.

  • Washington Memorial

    The Washington Memorial is a 555-foot marble obelisk that towers over other sites on the National Mall. Look at this monument closely and you will notice that it is made of three different marble colors because the original foundry closed and the second one's product was deemed inferior. The capstone at this memorial is aluminum because it was considered a very precious metal at the time of its completion in 1884.

  • Thomas Jefferson Memorial

    The Thomas Jefferson Memorial is a pantheon on the Tidal Basin. Part of the inspiration for this site's design came from the rotunda at the University of Virginia that Jefferson designed. The statue of Jefferson gazes out at Alexander Hamilton. Various events occur at this memorial throughout the year.

How To Get To Korean War Veterans Memorial

Street parking is available near the Korean War National Monument on Ohio Street Southwest between the Lincoln Memorial and the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. If you are at the White House, then it is about a 2-mile walk. Start by going east on H Street Northwest, then turn right on 14th Street Northwest. Turn right on Independence Avenue Southwest and continue for about 1 mile to reach this site.
