President William Jefferson Clinton Birthplace Home National Historic Site

The President William Jefferson Clinton National Historic Site is Bill Clinton's first home and where he learned lessons that shaped his presidency. It was built in 1917 and was owned by Clinton's maternal grandparents, Edith Grisham and James Eldridge Cassidy. Three months before Clinton's birth, his father was killed in a car accident. On August 19, 1946, Billy was born at Julia Chester Hospital; after being discharged, he moved into his grandparents' home with his mother, Virginia Blythe. For the first four years of Billy's life, he lived with his grandparents. He eventually grew up and became the 42nd president of the United States.
