If you're planning on RVing to Mammoth Cave National Park, it's likely to take a guided tour of the vast cave system, see bats in their natural habitat, and even explore certain sections of the cave on your own. There is no real best time to visit Mammoth Cave itself because the temperature inside the cave is a constant 54 F. Be sure to bring a sweatshirt or jacket. Outside the cave you can rent canoes or kayaks to explore the Green River and Nolin River. Children can become Junior Rangers while at the park. Based on the time of year, the visitor center is open from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., 6 p.m., or 6:30 p.m. Mammoth Cave Campground can accommodate RVs up to 38 feet in length, while Maple Springs Campground can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet long. All camping, RV or otherwise, within Mammoth Cave National Park requires a permit. You can make reservations and find out about road conditions and closures on the National Park Service site. As you're driving to Mammoth Cave National Park, you'll have the option of two entrances, one natural and one human-made. The natural entrance is called the Historic Entrance while the human-made entrance is called the Frozen Niagara entrance. Both are good for RVs, but it's important to note that GPS navigation systems sometimes take you to the wrong place in this area, so be sure to check your route ahead of departure. The nearest major city is Nashville, TN, about 85 miles to the south. About 92 miles to the north, you'll find Louisville, KY.

How to get to Mammoth Cave National Park
The two nearest airports are Nashville International Airport and Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport. They're both about a 90-minute drive from Mammoth Cave National Park. To get to Mammoth Cave National Park from Nashville International Airport, take Route 40 west from the airport until it joins Route 155, which you will take north. Continue on Route 155 until you reach Route 65. Take Route 65 north. Follow it to Park City, where you will take Route 255 north. When you reach Route 70, take it west to Mammoth Cave Entrance Road, where you will turn north. From Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, drive south on Route 65. Follow it to Park City, where you will turn north on Route 255. Continue on Route 255 until you reach Route 70. Turn west, and follow that to Mammoth Cave Entrance Road, where you will turn north.
