Daytona 500
The Daytona 500 is NASCAR's most prestigious race and one of the biggest events in American motorsports. Known as "The Great American Race," it runs each February at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. The 2027 race is scheduled for February 21. RV camping near the speedway is a great way for first-time and seasoned RV travelers to experience the action. Whether you stay for a day or the full race-week experience, this guide will help you make the most of your trip.
ACTIVITIES & ENTERTAINMENT
At the Daytona 500, the fun starts early in the week. The Hard Rock Bet Fanzone is the hub for driver appearances, autograph sessions and live music. Access to the Fanzone is included in select ticket packages or available as an upgrade. Daily track tours end at the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, where the reigning Daytona 500 champion car is on display. On race day, grab a scanner rental to listen in on live driver and crew communications for an insider's perspective on the action.
ON-SITE AMENITIES
Daytona International Speedway offers concessions, merchandise stands, restrooms and guest services throughout the venue. You can use the complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi in grandstand seating areas. Accessible amenities include ADA seating areas, disability assistance and TTY/TDD telephone lines. You should also expect event security, bag checks and large race-day crowds, so bring only what you need and review the speedway's current FAQ and venue policies before heading to the gates.
LOCATION
The 2027 Daytona 500 takes place at Daytona International Speedway, located at 1801 West International Speedway Boulevard in Daytona Beach, Florida. If you are driving an RV, you will likely use I-95, I-4 or International Speedway Boulevard to reach the area. Plan your route early and check race-weekend traffic updates. Try to arrive at least three hours early, before 9 a.m., and expect a two- to three-hour delay when leaving. You'll find plenty of beaches and fun places to visit nearby, like Ponce Inlet, an "Old Florida" town that's home to the Ponce Lighthouse & Museum. Port Orange and South Daytona offer direct access to the beach. During the Daytona 500, daytime high temperatures are usually around 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Evening temperatures drop into the 60s. Rain is common, so prepare for damp camping conditions.
RVING AT THE EVENT
Daytona International Speedway operates several on-site campgrounds, color-coded by location and amenity level. The Infield Campground puts you just steps from the racetrack, with full-hookup RV sites that include water, electricity and sewer, plus restrooms, showers and 24/7 security. The Shores at Lake Lloyd sits in the center of the infield along Lake Lloyd, with waterfront views of the Superstretch, a walking path and controlled access limited to RV guests. Exterior lots like the GEICO Grounds offer more space and a slightly quieter atmosphere.
Where to Camp Near the Daytona 500
If you're looking for nearby RV campgrounds, there are several solid options, including FinishLine RV Park, a seasonal campground directly across from the speedway's start/finish line. It's open only during major Daytona events, including the Daytona 500. Amenities include hot showers, 30- and 50-amp sites, water, on-site pump service and 24-hour security. Daytona RV Oasis is about 1.5 miles from the speedway and features full hookups, with water and electric at every site and daily pump-out service available. Their sister property, Racetrack RV, is located directly across from the speedway if you want to be even closer to the action.
RV Rental Tips for the Daytona 500
Book your RV rental in Daytona Beach as early as possible. The Daytona 500 draws some of the biggest crowds of the NASCAR season, and both on-site and nearby campgrounds fill up fast. If you're camping in the infield, note that only self-contained RVs are permitted and potable water is available at fill stations near the restrooms. When it comes to choosing your RV rental, Class A or Class C motorhomes work well for families and friend groups who want the most living space. A travel trailer lets you unhitch and use your tow vehicle for day trips around Daytona Beach. Campervans are the easiest to maneuver and park. February weather in Daytona is generally mild but can be windy and cool in the evenings, so pack layers along with sunscreen and comfortable shoes for walking the grounds.
