The State Fair of West Virginia has been an annual tradition since its founding in 1854, making it one of the oldest fairs in the country. Though the event was suspended during World War II, it resumed after the war and has since grown into a beloved local celebration. While the fair may be smaller in size compared to other state fairs, it offers a rich variety of attractions, from thrilling carnival rides and live music performances to unique exhibitions. Visitors can also enjoy harness racing, a beauty queen contest, livestock shows, and many family-friendly activities that showcase the state’s agricultural heritage and vibrant community spirit.
The State Fair of West Virginia spans eight full days, and attendees can expect free entertainment with admission on the Spring Center Stage. There’s also an Annual Car Show, a Dairy Birthing Center, a Heritage Village, and a Farm-to-Food Pavilion. The West Virginia Building hosts competitions in categories like fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and quilts, plus there are activities like harness racing, agriculture education, shopping, livestock shows, fair food, and the spectacular Reithoffer Carnival with rides and games for all ages.
You’ll find concessions for food and drinks all over at the State Fair of West Virginia. Other amenities include restrooms with disability accessibility, a cafeteria, a maintenance shop, free parking, first aid, ATMs, and a breastfeeding station.
