During the peak season, from May 1st to September 30th, complimentary permits are mandatory for both Bartlett Cove Campground and Glacier Bay backcountry camping. If your camping interests lie within the confines of the Bartlett Cove campground and exclude the Glacier Bay Wilderness, you can complete a straightforward Bartlett Cove Campground Permit Application. To secure your permit along with a bear-resistant food container, campers must partake in a 30-minute orientation, readily available upon request at the Bartlett Cove Visitor Information Station. The allocation of camping spots operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and reservations are not obligatory.
Situated in the picturesque embrace of a rainforest along the shore, a mere 1/4-mile south of the Bartlett Cove dock, the National Park Service maintains a complimentary walk-in campground. This scenic haven features essential amenities like bear-proof food storage caches, eco-friendly composting toilets, a beachside fire pit, and a cozy warming shelter. Notably, the Bartlett Cove campground is exclusive to pedestrians, accessible solely on foot, making it a walk-in campground. Visitors should note that the park doesn't provide RV facilities, including dump stations, hookups, or designated vehicle camping areas, reaffirming its commitment to preserving the pristine natural environment.
