Solar Eclipse Resources

RVshare is striving to provide your one-stop-shop for eclipse resources. We have created a guide with all the information you need to enjoy the eclipse – from a list of state parks in the path of totality, to packing tips, to family events to enjoy – we have you covered.

The solar eclipse of August 21, 2017, was the first total solar eclipse visible from the continental United States in nearly 40 years. The path of totality passed through 14 states and gave millions of people a chance to witness this awe-inspiring event. The eclipse lasted just a few minutes, but the experience was unforgettable for those who were lucky enough to be in the path of totality. According to NASA, the 2017 eclipse was one of the most watched events in human history, with an estimated 215 million American adults watching the eclipse either in person or via media outlets. In total, an estimated 88 million people traveled to see the eclipse and we’re expecting huge crowds again in 2024. RVshare internal insights reveal a 324 percent increase in bookings for the weekend of April 8 compared to Memorial Day Weekend 2024, which is historically the kickoff to the camping season.

Where is the Eclipse Visible?

To witness the 2024 total solar eclipse, you’ll need to be within the 115-mile-wide path of totality that arches from Mexico to Texas to Maine. The closer you are to the center of that path, the longer totality will last. Keep in mind, though, that most towns in the US aren’t on the path, and RV rentals, hotels and campsites usually book up months in advance. So, make sure you plan ahead if you want to experience the eclipse in the path of totality.

States in the path of totality include:

  • Texas
  • Oklahoma
  • Arkansas
  • Missouri
  • Illinois
  • Kentucky
  • Indiana
  • Ohio
  • Pennsylvania
  • New York
  • Vermont
  • New Hampshire
  • Maine

The 2024 Solar Eclipse is Already Drawing a Crowd

Travelers can now amplify their eclipse-viewing experience without having to sacrifice the typical comforts of home. According to RVshare’s 2024 Travel Trend Report, the 2024 solar eclipse is drawing a crowd and casting quite the shadow on the travel landscape. Survey insights reveal that 78 percent of Americans are planning to view the eclipse this coming April, and 53 percent are considering traveling to do so. Over half of travelers also claimed that they are very likely to rent an RV for a long weekend to experience a rare natural event, which RVshare and Spot2Nite’s packages can help to achieve.
