RVLock Keyless Entry Handle Review: Is It Worth It for Your RV?

If you’re traveling full-time like we are—or even if you just take your rig out on weekends—upgrading your RV’s security and convenience is always a smart move. After dealing with cheap factory door locks and keeping track of flimsy keys, we finally decided to try out the RVLock Keyless Entry Handle. Spoiler alert: We wish we’d made the switch sooner.

Why We Chose RVLock

We’ve seen RVLock pop up again and again in the full-time RV community, and after some research, it was clear this wasn’t just hype. Factory RV door locks are notorious for sharing key codes across units, meaning someone else at the campground could easily have a key that works on your rig—not a great feeling.

Before going with RVLock, we actually tried an off-brand version because it was on sale and seemed like an easy way to save money. Big mistake. It had multiple issues right out of the gate—most notably, it didn’t even have a handle to pull the door shut from the inside (which is pretty wild). It also broke within two months. After reaching out to the company, they sent us a “new and improved” version that at least included an interior handle, but it still gave us problems. Eventually, we gave up, reinstalled our original factory lock, and went back to using the old keys. That’s when we decided to bite the bullet and invest in the most recommended brand out there—RVLock. The difference was immediately noticeable. It replaces your existing handle with a more secure, keyless entry system that not only works better but looks and feels far more solid.

What’s in the Box

This review is specifically for the RVLock Compact Keyless Entry Handle, but from what we’ve seen, the more advanced models likely come with similar contents. Inside the box, you’ll find the compact keyless handle unit, one wireless key fob for remote locking and unlocking, two mechanical keys for backup access, and all the necessary mounting hardware. It also includes a clear, step-by-step installation guide. The unit is powered by four AA batteries (not included), so make sure to have those ready. Everything arrives neatly packaged, making installation quick and straightforward—even if you’re not particularly handy.

Installation

With any RV project, no matter how minor, you never quite know what to expect. But honestly, this one was surprisingly straightforward. It took about 15–20 minutes with just a screwdriver and a bit of patience. The instructions were clear, and everything we needed came in the box. No drilling, no complicated wiring—just a clean, simple swap from our original factory door lock and handle to this. Once it’s installed correctly, you can test it out to make sure it latches properly. Then you can create your new passcode for keyless entry!

Setting Up the Custom Passcode

One of the best features of the RVLock is the ability to create your own custom entry code. Setting it up was surprisingly simple and only took a few minutes. After installing the handle and inserting the batteries, we followed the included instructions to program our personal code using the keypad. The process involves holding down the lock button until you hear a beep, entering your new code, and then confirming it. It’s easy to change later if needed—no tech skills required. We also made it a point to talk with our kiddos about keeping the code private. We told them it was our “cool secret family code,” which made them feel included while helping them understand the importance of not sharing it with anyone else. Now, everyone in the family can come and go without fumbling for keys or a fob.

Features We Love About RVLock

  • Keyless Entry: You can unlock the door using a custom code on the keypad or with the included key fob (it comes with two). No more fumbling for keys in the dark or worrying if the kids lost theirs.
  • Solid Build: The handle feels rugged and good quality—definitely more durable than the factory latch we originally had on.
  • Backup Keys: Even though we’re loving the keyless option, we appreciate the traditional key fob and key set as a backup because you never know what life will throw at you.
  • Peace of Mind: Knowing that we’re the only ones with access to our door code is a big mental relief when we’re out hiking, exploring, or just sleeping at night.

Things to Consider

  • Price: It’s more expensive than a regular replacement handle/lock, but for us, the added security and convenience made it worth it because I really hate carrying around keys.
  • Battery Powered: It runs on AA batteries. We haven’t had any issues yet, but we’ll keep spares on hand just in case.

Final Thoughts

The RVLock Keyless Entry Handle has quickly become one of our favorite RV upgrades. It’s a simple change that’s made everyday life on the road noticeably easier. Beyond the added convenience, it provides a level of security we didn’t realize we were missing. If you’re fed up with the flimsy factory lock and want something more reliable, this upgrade is absolutely worth it.

Would we buy it again? Absolutely.
Would we recommend it to other RV families? Without hesitation. If you have questions about installing it or want to know how it holds up after more months on the road reach out to us on our Instagram page!
