Embrace the Open Road: Fall RV Travel Trends and Holiday Road Trips

Data and Insights

As summer fades into fall, travelers are hitting the road for adventure. According to a recent survey of RVshare renters, 77% of respondents plan to travel this fall, with more than half opting for trips that are less than a week. While only 27% of people plan to travel over Labor Day weekend, the fall season seems to offer a more appealing window for quick getaways. However, when it comes to the upcoming holiday season, one-fourth of respondents are still undecided about their travel plans, and 40% have decided not to travel at all.

Cost remains a significant factor in travel planning in the second half of the year. In fact, 42% of travelers say the expense will influence their fall and holiday travel decisions. Rising prices for airline tickets, gas, and hotel accommodations are key considerations, prompting many to explore more affordable alternatives, like road trips and RV travel.

Why RVing is a Great Option for Fall Travel

Traveling by RV offers a unique way to navigate the challenges of rising costs while enjoying the freedom of the open road. Three-fourths (75%) of respondents say they would consider taking an RV trip this holiday season for leisure or to visit family. With 53% of respondents planning to drive to their destinations this holiday season and half preferring to drive for the pure enjoyment of it, an RV presents a cost-effective, flexible, and comfortable option.

“Fall is an ideal time to explore America’s scenic routes,” says Maddi Bourgerie, RVshare’s Travel Expert. “The crisp air, changing leaves, and uncrowded national parks create a perfect setting for a memorable RV adventure.”

The top destinations this fall for RV travelers are diverse, ranging from national parks like Grand Canyon, AZ, Zion, UT, and Acadia, ME, to unique sporting events like Phoenix Raceway, AZ, and Talladega Superspeedway, FL. College football games are also drawing RV enthusiasts, with Texas A&M University and Circuit of the Americas, TX, being among the popular spots.

Whether you’re seeking an off-the-beaten-path experience or heading to a holiday gathering, an RV trip offers the chance to create unforgettable memories. Bourgerie adds,

“An RV trip provides the flexibility to explore at your own pace, and it can be a great option for families looking to travel economically.”

With more travelers embracing the RV lifestyle this fall, there has never been a better time to plan your next road trip adventure.
