The Milford Oyster Festival, also known as "Oysterfest," began in 1975. It typically draws in a yearly crowd of 50,000 people from all over the state. The event is located in downtown Milford, Connecticut, and the main purpose of this festival is to help promote both nonprofit and local businesses through showing the importance of the oyster industry in Milford.
This event is run by volunteers from around the area who help showcase the beautiful downtown and the sunny disposition of those who reside there. The Milford Oyster Festival is also a wonderful opportunity for local businesses to demonstrate industry knowledge to the general populous. During the festival, foods such as hot dogs, meatballs and potatoes will be served along with over 30,000 freshly caught oysters.
The festival kickoff event will be held on August 17 from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Lisman Landing area. To get into the kickoff, attendees will need to pay a $TBA cover fee; however, children may get in for free.
The Milford Oyster Festival has several main objectives: to show off the pretty harbors and represent local businesses in the Milford area, to celebrate the history of the oyster industry, and to allow civic groups to educate the public and raise funds to fight certain issues. This festival creates a healthy economy for all citizens of Milford because tourists will spend their dollars on local businesses, vendors, and civic groups, and this positive impact will continue throughout the year. The Milford Oyster Festival hosts over 70 civic groups, which helps them gain funding and raise the awareness of the public to certain issues. Additionally, the Milford Oyster Festival supports the community through directly contributing to local businesses in the area and near the harbors. Over the past decade, the event has put over $60,000 in funding toward civic groups.
Each year, the festival hosts a Classic Car Show. Visit the Classic Car page on the festival website to fill out an application so that you can show off your classic vehicle at the event.
The event will take place throughout the downtown Milford area. The festival’s handicap shuttle bus allows passengers to travel between vendors and exhibits conveniently. The shuttle bus will arrive at 54 Main St. to take attendees to the festival and drop them off at the Milford Fire Department.
