For 50 years, the Milford Oyster Festival has invited locals to learn about oysters and try different varieties while browsing vendors and rocking out to live music. Organizers bring tens of thousands of oysters so that everyone can try variations of this salty, savory snack. During the oyster-shucking competition, experts compete to become the fastest oyster shucker in Connecticut.

This free event takes place in Fowler Field during two evenings in August. From 5:00 to 10:00 p.m., you'll enjoy delicious food and live entertainment. Adults 21 and older can purchase beer and wine during the event. The Milford Oyster Festival also encourages people to visit local businesses and organizations, making this festival a community institution.

ACTIVITIES & ENTERTAINMENT

The Milford Oyster Festival offers two nights of live music, oysters and food vendors. Learn about wildlife, try different oyster species and grab dinner, and then take a walk around the park or grab your lawn chair and enjoy an evening of entertainment.

ON-SITE AMENITIES

Fowler Field is part of a park complex with tennis courts, walking paths, pavilions and restrooms. You can buy food and drinks at the event or walk to one of the local restaurants. Stores, gas stations and medical centers are located nearby.

RVING AT THE EVENT

The Milford Oyster Festival does not have official RV parking. Before you park your RV on the street, check the city's parking laws. You might be able to leave your RV at a friend's house, but the government dictates the number of RVs per property, distance from the house and how long you can stay.

Milford doesn't have an RV campground, but you can park your RV in a neighboring city. Make sure you have reliable transportation to Fowler Field because these campgrounds are several miles away. Learn more about RV camping in Connecticut to get the most out of your experience.

Boondocking is illegal in Connecticut, but you can park your RV at select casinos and rest areas, including Mohegan Sun Casino, Wallingford Rest Area Southbound, Foxwoods Resort and Casino 24 and Beach Pond Boat Ramp. These venues have fun activities to keep you entertained during your stay.

Here are some recommended RV campgrounds:

Totoket Valley RV Park offers 20-, 30- and 50-amp electrical hookups, plus sewer and water connections. Each site has two parking spaces, Wi-Fi, basic cable and access to 24/7 coin-operated laundry facilities. Choose from nightly, weekly and monthly rates. For local attractions, this RV park sits near the shoreline and several casinos and restaurants.

Aces High RV Park is a luxurious campground with full-hookup sites, Wi-Fi, cable TV, picnic tables and fire pits. The park hosts events throughout the year and offers a pool, dock and pickleball court. Buy propane, shower in the bathhouses, relax in the sauna or wash your clothes in the laundry room.

Ross Hill RV Park rents out campsites with water, sewer and electrical hookups. Barbecue at your fire ring and then hit the laundry center with washing machines, dryers and folding tables. When you need supplies, the camp store sells treats and essential goods. The clubhouse also hosts activities for guests.

RV campgrounds can fill up just as quickly as hotels, so consider reserving a spot for the 2025 season. Some campgrounds let you stay for weeks, giving you plenty of time to explore Connecticut's various attractions.
