Lake Loramie in Ohio was constructed to supply water for the Miami and Erie canals. After railroads took over as the preferred method of transportation and additional damage from the floods of 1913, the canals were abandoned for a while. Later, in 1949, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources turned Lake Loramie into a state park for the public's enjoyment.
