Just two miles away lies Elkwallow Wayside, providing convenient access to camping supplies and food services. Mathews Arm features a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served sites, with reservations released in sections. It's important to note that no reservations can be made within 48 hours of the selected date.
Within the confines of Shenandoah National Park, various wildlife, including bears, deer, raccoons, and skunks, are year-round inhabitants. To ensure the safety of both visitors and wildlife, strict guidelines are in place, mandating that all food, garbage, equipment used for food storage or preparation, and any scented items must be securely stored in a locked vehicle or storage locker when not actively in use. These measures contribute to the harmonious coexistence of visitors and the diverse wildlife that call Shenandoah home.
