As you all know, we are super passionate about the National Parks at RVshare. Many of us have it on our bucket list to see all 63 of them! I live in Ohio and I’m lucky enough to have less than an hour drive to one of our beautiful parks – Cuyahoga Valley! My favorite place to visit within the park is definitely Brandywine Falls, it’s so serene and makes me feel like I’m somewhere else, somewhere much more tropical than Ohio!
You can imagine my surprise when on a recent trip to the park on a beautiful spring day in March I saw a shadow lurking at the top of the falls. It seemed too large to be a person, not to mention that would be really dangerous! But it didn’t quite seem the right shape to be a dog or deer either. I grabbed my husband’s shoulder and told him I thought I was seeing bigfoot and must be going crazy! After all the sightings we’ve been hearing about recently with Bigfoot being spotted in Zion, Yosemite, Yellowstone, and the Grand Canyon, I must’ve had Bigfoot on the brain.
I took a chance and waved up at him and once he realized he’d been spotted he was on the move! But so was I! I left my husband behind with our daughter and took off down the path to head him off at the bottom of the falls. What happened next was out of a storybook. I came face to face with Bigfoot! I introduced myself and told him I work at RVshare and how he has always been a real idol around our office. Apparently the flattery worked, because he agreed to let me do an interview with him right on the spot! Below you will find my exclusive interview with the illustrious Bigfoot.
Megan: Mr Bigfoot Sir, thank you so much for taking the time to chat with me today!
Bigfoot: *Indiscernible grumble*
Megan: I have so many questions, but let’s just start with, what brought you to Cuyahoga Valley National Park today? And was that really you other RVshare travelers spotted in Zion, Yosemite, Yellowstone, and the Grand Canyon?
Bigfoot: I love nature. Cuyahoga Valley is underrated in my opinion, it has a diverse terrain and 100 waterfalls. That was probably me that those folks saw at the other parks as well. Every year I make my way through all of the National Parks. Did you know they recently added a new one, New River Gorge? I’m heading there next. But please don’t tell anyone.
Megan: I did know that! We recently created a guide all about it. You should check out all of our National Park guides, maybe they’d help you explore new places! Or better yet, you could share some hidden gems with us that we could include.
Bigfoot: Maybe. Although I’d prefer my hidden gems stay hidden. You understand.
Megan: Sure, of course. What do you love about those other parks? Do you have an all time favorite?
Bigfoot: They all offer something unique. In Zion, climbing Horse Ranch Mountain is quite a test of my endurance. Yosemite has Half Dome and Yosemite Falls which will take your breath away. I feel at home among the wildlife at Yellowstone; elk, bison, deer, mountain goats, and bears, oh my. And the Grand Canyon is iconic for a reason. I love taking my time and making my way down into the canyon. But my favorites are some of the less popular parks. All of the parks in Alaska are truly something to behold, not to mention the cooler climates are a little more comfortable for me. *gingerly pats the thick thatch of hair on his forearm* North Cascades National Park in northwestern Washington is probably my favorite. Did you know approximately one-third of all glaciers within the continental United States are located there? It may surprise you, but I prefer cooler climates.
Megan: Speaking of surprises, what’s something about you that pop culture gets wrong?
Bigfoot: I’m actually a vegetarian.
Megan: No way, me too! What’s something that everyone assumes about you that drives you nuts?
Bigfoot: That I smell. I’m actually quite hygienic. It’s very easy for me to access the showers at state and national parks after hours while everyone is sleeping.
Megan: I must say, I noticed no smell when I met you. I have to know, are you the only one of your kind?
Bigfoot: *smirks* I can’t tell you that.
Megan: Give me a wink if there’s more of you.
Bigfoot: *winks*
Megan: Another thing I wondered, do you refer to yourself as Bigfoot? Or do you have a name?
Bigfoot: I’m so glad you asked, my name is actually Bernard. I don’t even understand where Bigfoot came from, as you can see, my feet are quite proportionate to the rest of me.
Megan: Well, it’s lovely to meet you Bernard! So help our readers get to know you. How tall are you? How would you describe yourself? Any favorite hobbies?
Bigfoot: I’m just under 8 feet tall. I have light brown hair and lots of it! My eyes are brown. I am very gentle and enjoy reading, long hikes and catching butterflies. I set them free right away of course! I enjoy seeing families spending time outdoors, it’s a great way to connect.
Megan: We’re all about helping families spend time outside at RVshare! Have you ever heard of us before?
Bigfoot: I’m not on the internet as you probably figured out, but I do overhear things while passing through campgrounds. I’ve noticed a lot more people trying out the RV camping lifestyle now that you make it more accessible, which is very exciting.
Megan: I agree! We love connecting people with the outdoors. Now, do you mind if I ask you a few silly questions to have some fun?
Bigfoot: Shoot.
Megan: OK, first up. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Bigfoot: Easy, french fries.
Megan: Good choice. Have you met the Lochness monster?
Bigfoot: Don’t be silly, that’s a myth.
Megan: Are you a planner or more spontaneous?
Bigfoot: I really go where the wind takes me. Sometimes I have to leave places early after being spotted.
Megan: What place is top on your bucket list?
Bigfoot: I would love to visit Europe. But as you can imagine, intercontinental travel would be difficult for me.
Megan: Do you travel light? What item do you always have with you?
Bigfoot: I don’t travel with much because I have to be ready to pick up and leave at a moment’s notice. But one thing I am never without is my Yeti Rambler water bottle. Gotta stay hydrated!
Megan: OK how about a couple “would you rathers” — swim with dolphins or go shark diving?
Bigfoot: Sharks for sure! They are such misunderstood creatures.
Megan: Bungee jump or skydive.
Bigfoot: Oh I would love to skydive. What a rush!
Megan: If you were to write a book, what would it be about?
Bigfoot: Oh wow, I do keep a journal, and would be able to share so much about my life. I would probably create a biography all about what it’s like to live off the land and have to keep yourself a secret. It would be called, The Invisible Monster.
Megan: I would be first in line to read it. Bernard, thank you so much for allowing me to interview you today. I’m sure your fans are going to be so excited to learn more about you. I could talk to you for hours but I’ll let you get back to your adventures. Any final thoughts you want to share with the world?
