Due to its sheltered location, Potlatch State Park is one of the best spots if you want to harvest shellfish. The area is known as "Enetai" to the Skokomish Indian Tribe, which means "beyond", and was a winter village where the Potlatch ceremony was held. This 84-acre park includes 5,700 feet of shoreline along the Hood Canal and is located about a half-hour north of Olympia, WA, on US Highway 101. The small town of Hoodsport is just five minutes from the state park. The area sees about 38 inches of precipitation annually, most of which falls between November and February.

Potlatch State Park Campground
The campground at Potlatch State Park has 35 partial hookup sites that can accommodate RVs up to 60 feet. Restrooms and shower facilities are located within the campground. A playing field is available at the North Loop, and the dump station is near the South Loop. RV sites start at $30/night during winter and $35 during peak season.
Waterfront at Potlatch
The Waterfront at Potlatch is a 13-minute walk from Potlatch State Park. It features deluxe and standard RV sites, all of which offer full hookups, cable TV, and Wi-Fi. Deluxe sites have 50-amp power, are a bit roomier, and are just steps from the waterfront, while standard RV sites are a little smaller, farther from the water, and have either 50- or 30-amp power. Rates start around $45/night.
Skokomish Park at Lake Cushman
Skokomish Park at Lake Cushman was ranked second for the Best of the Northwest Escapes competition. The park offers both back-in and pull-through sites, and all 34 spaces have full hookups. Amenities include a volleyball court, restrooms, showers, and picnic tables. Rates for RV spots start at $52/night.
Glen Ayr Resort
Glen Ayr Resort is a pet-friendly RV park and is a destination unto itself. The camping area offers deluxe 50-amp, pull-through 50-amp, and standard 30-amp RV sites, and all the sites have full hookups with cable TV as well as access to laundry and shower facilities. The five deluxe RV sites back up into a wooded creek and are close to the beach, swim spa, and BBQ area. Pull-through sites are spacious, and each has a picnic table. Each of the standard 30-amp sites includes a patio area with a picnic table. The resort offers swimming, a spa, and other luxuries.

Inside Potlatch State Park
Clamming, crabbing, and oyster harvesting are all popular activities at Potlatch State Park, and a license is required. The day-use area features a canoe launch to allow kayaking and sailboarding on the relatively calm Hood Canal. You'll also find four mooring buoys, and you can enjoy saltwater fishing in the canal. The park has an amphitheater, and seasonally, kids can participate in the Junior Ranger programs. Other activities include a hike on the half-mile trail, beach exploration, bird watching, and kite flying.
How to Get to
Potlatch State Park
From Interstate 5 in either direction, take the exit for US Highway 101 N, which is at the south end of Olympia. Take US 101 all the way to the entrance of the park, just north of the Skokomish Indian Reservation.

This state park is open from 8 a.m. to dusk, year-round. You will need to purchase your Discover Pass ahead of time because Potlatch State Park does not have an automated pay station.

The park is most interesting during the summer. Swimming along the shoreline is the best way to stay cool during the summer. Additionally, you'll have a good time picnicking, scuba diving, windsurfing, and clamming.
From May through September, Potlatch State Park experiences moderate temperatures ranging from the 60s to the high 70s, with less precipitation during the hottest summer months. Winter temperatures range from the mid-40s to the mid-50s, with moderate amounts of rainfall.
The area's varied topography contributes to the wide variety of bird species. Near the lake, it's possible to see scaups, herons, and scoters. While in the woods, keep a lookout for fox sparrows and Steller's jays.
There are 27 total spots and five pull-through campsites in the Potlatch State Park. The campground consists of two loops connected by a single road. The campsites vary in size. RVs and trailers are only allowed to be 60 feet in length.
Pets are allowed at Potlatch State Park, but they must always be on no less than a six-foot leash. They must also be under the physical control of owners while in the park. Owners must clean up after their pets as well.
