Oxnard is a coastal city along the Pacific Ocean in Ventura County, California. With a population of around 202,000 people, Oxnard is the most populous city in Ventura County and the second most populous city in Southern California after Los Angeles. In 1897, Henry T. Oxnard's three brothers built a successful sugar beet factory on the inland plains near Port Hueneme. That same year, a new town emerged and was granted National Historic Landmark status as the Henry T. Oxnard Historic District. Rather than use his brother's proposed Greek name for the settlement, he named it after himself: "Oxnard."

Oxnard developed rapidly as an agricultural town with citrus crops as its mainstay until the 1930s, when oil became an important factor in the local economy, particularly with the development of offshore oilfields. Although agriculture still plays an important role in Oxnard's economy today, the city has diversified into other industries, including aerospace and defense contracting. Oxnard continues to be a major center of industry and commerce in Southern California. It is home to both of the University of California's medical schools.

Oxnard has numerous parks that offer hiking trails and playgrounds for children. These include Lake Casitas Recreation Area, which offers hiking trails and fishing opportunities. Other places to visit while in Oxnard are Victoria Gardens Park and Shaffer Park, which includes a basketball court and a dog park.
