Rebecca's RVshare Story

What do you do for a living?

I am a court reporter.

Why did you decide to start renting your RV with RVshare?

Mostly I wanted to offset the cost of owning my RV so that I could keep it after recent changes in circumstances made it difficult.

How long did it take for people to start inquiring on renting your RV?

It was almost instant for the inquiries to start, and it was booked so quickly we really had to scramble to get it ready! Initially I just put up one picture (all I had) thinking I would put up more later. But I booked it so quickly that I had to wait for it to get back from the first rental to add more pictures.

How many rentals have you booked so far?

Five all together so far, plus a long weekend I let friends use it, which I could have booked (had to decline several booking requests) but I had already committed to the friends.

What’s the total amount of money those rentals added up to?

Approximately $3,000.

What were you expecting singing up for RVshare?

I mostly just signed up to see what would happen, and really thought it would take much longer than it did to get renters.

What concerns did you have about renting your RV?

My biggest concern was roadside service. Also how to handle the money part of it and the deposit. I also worried about damage and theft.

What would you say to someone else who’s considering renting their RV on RVshare?

It is much easier to get renters than you would think. Truly, RVshare makes it a relatively simple process and takes so many of the problems away for both you and your renters. They are amazingly responsive and will instantly walk you through any difficulties you may encounter. I was not really ready for my first rental, didn't expect it to happen so fast, and they held my hand the whole time. Everything on the site and in their system is genius.

Is there anything else you would like other RV owners to know?

I guess the extra money would be the obvious answer, but I have to say I have so enjoyed meeting the people who have rented my RV and feel as if they are now friends. They send me pictures and are so appreciative of the trips they were able to take in my RV. It is very fun helping people to have a successful trip and make lifetime memories. Also, this has been a great hands-on family enterprise. My 10- and 12-year-old kids have pitched in with gusto and it has taught them a lot about business, self-employment, that hard work pays off (we are going to Great Wolf next week with some of the profits) and has allowed them to meet people from other walks of life.

What are the biggest benefits of renting your RV?

Just that I would highly recommend doing this. It's more fun than you think and you will love the experience and the extra cash. I can't imagine a better partner to do it with than RVshare.

Initially I thought let's post and see what happens--after all it is free to create your listing. Then the requests started coming in and they have not stopped. I’ve already made $10,000 and counting.

I received inquiries within days of posting my listing, and this year I did close to $68,000 in bookings. The biggest benefits have been the cash-flow and meeting people from all over the Midwest.

I wanted to make money so that I could keep my RV, and I have. I made $12,200 in 2015 and $7,300 already in 2016! The biggest benefits are the money and the people I meet. Go ahead and try it! It's worked really well for me! I love it!

My trailer was not being used as frequently as I would have liked. So we considered selling, however with no bites except for the low-ball offers I was looking for an alternative to selling.
